Personalities in Type
Each and every human’s personality is different, and that shows up in their handwriting. While we can see this all the time on paper, we hardly ever see it online. We spend hours a day on our computers or phones, so why do those devices represent us all the same way? If everyone’s handwriting is intricate and personal to them, I believe typefaces should have the ability to be personal too. I want people to have the option of allowing their personalities to extend into the digital world through what they type.
In an effort to embody this value of individuality, I chose a few of the people I know the best and visualized their personalities through words, letter forms, and portraits. Each diptych is unique to the person it envisions, and together they form a collection of character that would have otherwise been missed if viewed online. All of the things that a computer removes from our handwriting—imperfection, personal touch, and unpredictability—are what make us human, and those are worth sharing now more than ever.
