Research & Community Outreach

Students at the UDC tackle complex urban issues using innovative approaches and cutting-edge technology to engage with diverse communities on local, regional and global scales. 

With access to other departments based in Boise, such as the College of Law and the McClure Center for Public Policy, faculty on University of Idaho’s Moscow campus, a network of statewide education resources and partnerships with international institutions, students can pursue a diverse range of specialized interests. 

Faculty at the UDC study a variety of issues related to socio-ecological systems. There is an especially strong emphasis on high performance buildings, energy systems, health and the built environment, and urban and regional water supply and quality.  Students should contact individual faculty members about grant opportunities within their area of research.
