About the Executive Director
Stefany Bales comes to the University of Idaho with 20 years of experience in creating, managing and implementing high-profile, image-based policy; public relations; and media and marketing programs within forestry, natural resources and other consumer industries, both public and private. In 2013, she came to U of I to serve as the director of integrated communications and was promoted to executive director of University Communications and Marketing in April 2015.
Bales began her career as the North Idaho regional director for U.S. Sen. Mike Crapo. She also held the position of vice president of communications for the Coeur d’Alene-based Intermountain Forest Association (IFA) for eight years. While at IFA, she served as the communication program manager and spokesperson for the timber industry statewide on forest policy and other natural resource-related issues. In 2006, Bales joined Pac/West, a public relations and government affairs firm, where she served as vice president. She then moved to Coeur d’Alene Mines Corporation in December 2011 as director of corporate communications.
She has a bachelor’s degree in English literature from Elmira College in New York and a Master of Science in natural resource communication from the University of Idaho.
