U of I Scholarships for U of I Students

International Experience Grant

Continuing, degree-seeking UI undergraduates, graduates and law students who have not previously received an IEG and are in good academic standing. Recipients must be participating in an international experience that awards academic credit for the experience. Recipients must be enrolled in a minimum of 1 UI credit for their international experience. Undergraduate students must have completed at least one semester at the UI prior to their international experience. Average awards: $1,000. Awards determined on a first come, first served basis once study abroad application is completed through the UI Study Abroad Office. There is no separate IEG application.

French Embassy Benjamin Franklin Generation Study Abroad Scholarship

Application Deadline: October 23rd, 2016 (For study in Spring 2017 or Summer 2017)

Anticipated Awards: 4 awards for $2500 each

Eligibility: Students who would like to study or intern in France for academic credit during Spring 2017 and/or Summer 2017; must have completed at least one semester at UI prior to going abroad; no prior French language studies required but student must plan to take some French language while abroad. Preference given to students who are underrepresented in UI Education Abroad, including but not limited to, students with high financial need, students in underrepresented fields such as the sciences, engineering and education, students with diverse ethnic backgrounds, students who are the first in their immediate family to go to college, non-traditional students and students with disabilities. An essay with a maximum length of 2 pages is required (more information within the application). A follow-on project to help promote education abroad to France and to encourage other underrepresented students to go abroad is required. Students will propose a project within their essay and the project will be finalized with the Education Abroad office if the students is awarded. Willis E. Sullivan, III Memorial Study Abroad Scholarship
Application deadline: April 2

Anticipated awards per year: 2-3, up to $6,000.
Eligibility: Idaho resident; juniors or seniors only; participating in a semester or yearlong foreign language/culture study abroad program; financial need is a secondary consideration. David A. & Mary Alice Poe Study Abroad Scholarship
Application deadline: April2

Anticipated Awards: 2, up to $3,000 each
Eligibility: For students participating in a semester or yearlong study abroad program; must be pursuing a major in CLASS and have a minimum 3.0 UI GPA; preference given to juniors and seniors; financial need is a secondary consideration. Ware Family Study Abroad Scholarship
Application deadline: April 2

Anticipated Awards: 1, up to $1,000
Eligibility: Idaho resident; participating in a semester or yearlong study abroad program; must be pursuing a major in CLASS and be in good academic standing; preference is given to students from Lewiston, Idaho or who are members of Delta Tau Delta fraternity; financial need is a secondary consideration. CALS Study Abroad Scholarship                                                                        
Application deadline: Last day of "no exam week" of the semester before travel.

The scholarship is designed to assist students with travel costs. Scholarship amounts vary. Applications available from CALS Academic Programs in Ag. Sci. 65 or call (208) 885-7984.

Kimberly Farnen Scholarship

This scholarship is a single award for $485.


Cortland J. Northrop Jr. Memorial Scholarship

Awarded to undergraduate CBE majors who are studying abroad. Recipients must be full-time undergraduate students with demonstrated financial need who are participating in at least one semester abroad.

Contact Joe Law, Associate Dean for Undergraduates in the College of Engineering, for more information about scholarships that may be available for studying abroad. Scholarship amounts will vary.
