The University Honors Program (UHP) offers two types of scholarship awards: Honors Scholarships and Western Undergraduate Exchange (WUE) awards.
To be considered for these awards, students must be admitted to the Honors Program. All incoming honors students are automatically considered. There is no additional application required.
“The Honors Program scholarship has taken the burden of tuition off my back and has allowed me to focus on what is really important: my education.”

Honors scholarships are awarded based on merit. This includes academic achievement (including, but not limited to, high school GPA and ACT/SAT scores), leadership, involvement and/or community service.
These scholarships are typically awarded in amounts of $1,000 or $1,500. They are renewable for up to four years, contingent on meeting the Honors 3.3 cumulative UI GPA requirements, sustaining membership in the UHP (see membership requirements), and making progress toward the Honors Core Award or Certificate.
Honors scholarships may be awarded to either in-state or out-of-state students. They are most often awarded as part of the Presidential Scholar and Honors Fellow distinctions; however, they may be offered to other students as well, depending on availability of funding.
Western Undergraduate Exchange (WUE) Awards
WUE awards are awarded based on merit. This includes academic achievement (including, but not limited to, high school GPA and ACT/SAT scores), leadership, involvement and/or community service.
The Honors Program is one of only three programs at the University of Idaho that provides WUEs to its students (the others being diversity and performing arts). Ultimately, more than 60 percent of WUE--eligible students in the Honors Program receive an award.
WUE recipients pay a reduced tuition cost. This means, instead of paying full out-of-state tuition, these students pay 150% of Idaho resident tuition and basic registration fees. WUEs are renewable for up to four years contingent on meeting the Honors 3.3 cumulative UI GPA requirements and sustaining membership in the UHP (see membership requirements).
Only students with residency in Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota, Utah, Washington, Wyoming and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands are eligible to receive a WUE award.
Please note that the priority application date is December 1.
