Consider this: Hunger and poverty claim 25,000 lives a day. More than 850 million people do not have enough to eat and every five seconds a child dies from hunger. These are startling numbers. We often feel helpless in the face of this enormous problem. However, the problem of world hunger can be solved. It won't be easy; but with our combined energy, passion, and intelligence it can be done. The University of Idaho is working as part of a team: The Academic War on Hunger is comprised of 29 universities across the nation in partnership with the World Food Programme. We are united in a four-pronged effort: Hunger Awareness and Consciousness-Raising Fundraising Advocacy Academic Initiatives As JFK said over 40 years ago, "We have the means, we have the capacity to end hunger from the face of the earth in our lifetime.
