REGIONAL BENEFITS:

A vibrant center in Twin Falls. The Twin Falls Research and Extension Center serves south central Idaho with teaching, research and outreach in agricultural economics and rural sociology;  animal and veterinary science; biological and agricultural engineering; plant, soil and entomological sciences; and natural resources.

Internationally recognized fish research. Scientists at the University of Idaho’s Aquaculture Research Institute and the Hagerman Fish Culture Experiment Station contribute to issues surrounding threatened or endangered fish species, recovery and restoration of fish populations, and water use and allocation in fisheries management.

Groundbreaking discoveries for healthier trout. University researchers collaborated with industry scientists to develop a vaccine that prevents bacterial coldwater disease, a lethal disease in trout that is regarded as the No. 1 problem for Idaho’s trout industry.

Active extension outreach. The University of Idaho Extension Office in Twin Falls leads research, partnerships and educational programs to support the region’s youth, communities, families, environment and agriculture.

Access to a University of Idaho bachelor’s degree. Students at the College of Southern Idaho can pursue a four-year degree from the University of Idaho in Twin Falls after they complete their associate degree.

Research to advance Idaho’s agriculture industry. The 180-acre University of Idaho Kimberly Research and Extension Center leads research in dry bean genetics and potato storage and works to address challenges facing Idaho’s crop and livestock industries.
