Higher education is crucial to Idaho’s economic health and quality of life.
The value of higher education in the state of Idaho is evident. But, as the legislature meets to discuss the state’s budget, economic conditions are again forcing state representatives to critically examine that value. Some are talking about more devastating cuts in funding for higher education.
We can’t sustain additional cuts.
Further reductions, on top of deep cuts from previous years, would greatly diminish higher education’s ability to advance the state of Idaho. In particular, further cuts would impact the University of Idaho’s ability to lead the innovation, scholarship, outreach and workforce development.
Cuts to higher education funding could threaten the state’s ability to compete in this increasingly global economy. Idaho and its citizens would bear the consequences—now and well into the future.
