Carpet
The residence halls are shifting to new tiled carpeting throughout the facilities. Most common areas have already made the transition.Tile carpeting makes University Housing more sustainable because when damage occurs, as only the affected tiles will be replaced rather than an entire section of carpeting. A majority of the carpet tile University Housing uses contains recycled content in the nylon fibers and backing.
Water
The bathrooms in University Housing utilize low-flow showerheads and faucets, which add up to water savings. This not only saves money, but it also helps us conserve one of our most precious resources – water.
Lighting
University Housing has shifted to compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs) to save energy in the residence halls. CFLs use less energy and contribute less to greenhouse gas emissions than incandescent light bulbs. University Housing recently shifted to CFL bulbs and T-8 fluorescent bulbs in our larger 2 foot and 4 foot fixtures.
