The Residence Halls CLOSE on Saturday, May 11th at NOON!
All students must be checked out of the residence halls by 12 p.m., except those with prior approved written extensions. Failure to check out by 12 p.m. will result in a $50 fee, charged to your student account.
If you have any questions about residence hall closing procedures, please contact your RA or email the University Housing office.
Residence Hall Checkout Procedure:
- Make an appointment with an RA at least 24 hours before you want to check out. Schedules will be posted on the RA door.
- Empty and clean your room.
- Return your room to the original condition indicated on the RCF.
- Remove all items from the Trunk room if you will no longer be living in the Residence Halls.
- Return your mail key to the Information desk where you pick up your mail.
- Return your room key to the LLC 24-Hour Information Desk.
- Meet with the RA at the scheduled time to check out.
Failure to be to meet your RA at the scheduled time or failure to not have the room cleaned out prior to the scheduled meeting time will result in your RA giving you an Express Check-Out form; that you will fill in and return to the LLC 24 hour desk. At this point you will not have the option to appeal damage charges that may be found in your room when Housing staff goes through to inspect at a later date.
Cleaning Your Room
Print a Cleaning Checklist to assist you with cleaning your residence hall room.
Defrost and Clean Your Fridge. Please defrost and clean your Micro-fridge! It is important to do this 1-2 days before you plan on checking out.
Damages
During checkout, the RA will be reviewing your room for any changes not noted on your Room Condition Form. Some example of damages could include new holes in the walls or ceilings, ripped contact paper, etc. You will be charged for any noted or non-noted damages to your room. If you have any questions about this or possible charges, please talk to one of the Residence Life staff members.
Bikes
Don’t forget to take your bike home over the summer! Bikes left in or around the Residence Halls, including in the bike storage rooms, will be donated!
Summer Storage
If you are RETURNING to the Residence Halls in the FALL, you may store your belongings in the Trunk Room. Space is limited. Trunk room storage is available between 8pm and 10pm every night; see the RAs on duty. If you are NOT living in the Residence Halls next year, you must remove all of your belongings from the Trunk Rooms before leaving.
University Housing is not responsible for the theft or damage of your belongings while stored in the Trunk Rooms.
Items that CANNOT be stored in the Trunk Rooms:
- Mattresses
- Cinder blocks
- Futons
- Wood
- Tires
- Bikes
- Ammunition and guns
- Flammable liquids
Forwarding Mail
Before leaving the residence halls, it is important that you leave a forwarding address using the on-line system. If you do not leave a forwarding address, all mail sent to your MSC box will be returned to sender. When using the on-line system, do not use the # sign, abbreviations, or punctuation marks. Follow these instructions:
- Go to http://vandalweb.uidaho.edu/
- Log in, go to "Personal Information/Address Menu"
- Go to "Update Address(es) and Phone(s)"
- Scroll down to "Type of Address to Insert"
- Select "Short Lived Summer Address"
- Click on SUBMIT even if you aren't coming back for next semester!
- Fill in the blanks with your summer address, and click on SUBMIT. Your mail will be forwarded to the address which you put as "Short Lived Summer Address." Info desks at Wallace and LLC do NOT need a print-out copy of this.
- Return your mail key to the appropriate desk where you pickup your mail. Failure to return your mail key will result in a $35.00 non-refundable charge to your student account.
