Emergency Plans

1. Attempt to remove yourself from any danger.
2. Call 911. Call from a safe location, if possible.
3. If you are outdoors on the Moscow campus, remember that courtesy phones are available in lighted locations.
4. If possible, provide the police with the following information:

• Location of crime
• Nature of crime and specifics (number of people involved, any weapons, etc.)
• Any injuries
• Description of suspect(s) (height, weight, sex, race, clothing, hair color etc.)
• Direction of travel of suspects
• Description of any vehicles involved in the crime
• DO NOT pursue or attempt to detain suspects.

In the event of fire or explosion, remember these steps in the following acronym:

R – Rescue yourself or others around you if you can do so safely.

A – Sound the alarm if it has not already been activated.

C – Confine spaces by shutting doors behind you.

E – Evacuate the building and go to your planned evacuation site.

1. Call 9-911 or have someone call for you.
2. If it is possible and safe to do so:
   • Protect victim from further injury by removing any persistent threat to the victim. Do not move the victim unnecessarily. 
   • Do not delay in obtaining trained medical assistance.
   • Provide first aid until help arrives if you have appropriate training and equipmentSend someone outside to escort emergency responders to the appropriate location.

1. Report the outage to the Living Learning Community 24-hour desk at (208) 885-7379.
2. Turn off or unplug non-essential electrical and computer equipment, hair dryers/curlers, and appliances to prevent power surges when the power is restored. Keep refrigerators and freezers closed throughout the outage to help keep them cold.
3. If you need to leave the building, make sure you lock your doors to protect your belongings.
4. Take keys and access cards with you so you can get back into your residence when the power gets turned back on.
5. Take some identification with you when you leave your building because University Housing staff members will want to validate that you live in the building/wing/floor (if you want to return to your room before the power is turned back on).
6. If you notice emergency lighting that does not work, please note the location and let your resident assistant or the 24-hour desk staff know so it can be corrected

It is difficult to know with certainty in what form a threat will take place. It could be an obvious event involving an explosion and release of hazardous materials or it could involve a covert method, such as letters or packages containing hazardous materials.

The following are guidelines for generic suspicious activities that should be reported to the Moscow Police Department at (208) 882-2677 or, if life-threatening, at 911:

• Anonymous tips, phone calls or notes indicating threatening events
  • TIP: Hang up, or if you feel comfortable try to get as much information as possible for the police.
• People who are watching officials or offices
• Unidentified or unattended packages left in or near offices
• Requests for plans, blueprints, or specifications for buildings by people who have no reason for needing this information
• People in places where they do not belong
• Packages or heavy mail with a peculiar odor or appearance
• Confrontations with angry, aggressive, belligerent or threatening persons.

    Extremely threatening or violent behavior by coworkers who indicate they may resort to revenge or more violence
  • TIP: Remove yourself from the immediate area and call the police or 911.
