Career
Opportunities
The department’s high quality training is reflected in
the impressive achievements of its graduates who have launched
successful careers in professional theatre, television and
film across North America—from Broadway to Hollywood. They
contribute to the field in many ways: performers, playwrights,
designers, technicians, directors, producers and managers.
Many of our graduates further their studies with training
at nationally-acclaimed graduate programs, such as Yale
School of Drama, Rutgers University, Southern Methodist
University, New York University and the University of Washington.
The range of other career prospects are vast and diverse—teaching,
arts programming and administration, art therapy, youth-at-risk
counseling, recreational drama for special populations.
Many politicians and attorneys start their careers with
studies in theatre. In our rapidly-changing society, there
are literally hundreds of career fields open to theatre
graduates with skills in communication, creative problem-solving
and critical thinking developed during their liberal arts
studies.
“The universal skills developed in theatre are a collaboration
of communication skills and the versatile thinking that
makes one a flexible problem solver.”Cheri Vasek, Assistant
Professor of Theatre (design)
“The rediscovery of the imagination and the empathetic
spirit of the student births the artist that is capable
of anything.” Kelly Quinnett, Assistant Professor of
Theatre (performance)
