How To

  • *69
    This feature is available on ISDN telephone lines only

    Couldn’t answer the phone in time?
    *69 will provide either information regarding the telephone number of your last incoming call and/or the option to dial the caller back. Call information is not available for all incoming calls. There is no usage fee associated with this service at this time.



  • Attendant Transfer
    Also known as Personal Receptionist

    1. Access Voice Mail 5-0086
    2. Select 4 from the Main Menu
    3. Press 5 for Telephone Numbers
    4. Press 2 to select/change your Personal Receptionist telephone number. The service will recite your current Personal Receptionist destination telephone number (if previously set).

      • Press 1 to keep.
      • Press 2 to change.
        • Enter your new 10-digit Personal Receptionist telephone number.
          NOTE: this must be a local telephone number.
        • Press # to keep it and return to the Personal Receptionist Menu.

      • Press 3 to delete
        • Press 1 to confirm deletion
        • Press 2 to keep it and return to the Telephone Number.

    When you have completed the Attendant setup, you will need to revise your Voice Mail GREETING to include the verbiage, Dial zero to reach [person’s name/title or a special information message, such as "for immediate assistance", "to reach another member of our team", or "to reach our main office."]


  • Blocking and UnBlocking Caller I.D. for outgoing calls
    To Block your number when calling out, press *67.
    Your telephone number will not appear on Caller I.D. for this call ONLY. The next time you call out , your telephone number will appear on Caller I.D.

    To UnBlock your number (if your number currently shows a status of PRIVATE), press *82.
    Your telephone number will now appear for this call ONLY. The next time you call out your telephone number will not appear on Caller I.D.

    If you have the Privacy Feature on your line, your telephone number will not appear on Caller I.D. when you call out. If you have this feature and would like it removed, please send an email to phones@uidaho.edu.
  • Call Hold and Retrieve
    Allows customer to place an incoming call on hold and/or retrieve a call placed on hold. To place a call on hold, ask caller to hold and depress the hookswitch, flash or link, enter *1 and place handset next to phone.

    To retrieve a call placed on hold, lift handset and depress the hookswitch, flash or link. Your caller will be on the line. OR, hang the phone up, wait for ring, lift handset and resume conversation.
  • Call Waiting/ Cancel Call Waiting

    Call Waiting

    When you hear a Call Waiting tone:

    To answer the waiting call and hold the original party:

    1. Ask th original party to wait.
    2. Hookswitch flash/link (listen for flash tone)
    3. Key in *1 (Talk to waiting party)

    To return to the original party:

    1. Hookswitch flash/link (listen for flash tone)
    2. Key in *1 (talk to original party)

    To answer the waiting call and disconnect the original party:

    1. Hang up.
    2. Lift handset when phone rings (talk to waiting party)

    Cancel Call Waiting

    1. Lift handset
    2. Key in #5(listen for flash tone)
    3. Key in desired phone number.

    If already engaged in a call:

    1. Hookswitch flash/link (listen for flash tone)
    2. Key in #5 (listen for flash tone)

     

  • Call Forwarding
    This feature allows calls to be transferred to another number. While active, all incoming calls will be transferred to the specified number until the feature is deactivated.

    To program Call Forwarding

    Dial the Call Forwarding access code, *58.
    You will get a second dial tone, dial the telephone number that calls are to be transferred to:

    on campus 5 digits, "5-XXXX"
    off campus "9+XXX-XXXX"
    Press #

    NOTE: You can only forward to local telephone numbers

    This number will remain in memory until you override it with a different phone number. To turn the Call Forwarding option on and off use the following codes.


    To activate Call Forwarding
    Dial *50 (you will hear a confirmation tone)

    on an ISDN phone press the “g” button, the light will indicate
    that the phone is in Forwarding mode.


    To deactivate Call Forwarding
    Dial #40 (you will hear a confirmation tone)
    on an ISDN phone, press the "g" button, the light will go out.



    To Forward calls to Voice Mail

    Dial *58, then 5-0086#
    This number will remain in memory until you override it with a different number.

    To activate, dial *50

    If you have an ISDN phone, press the “g” button



    Forwarding a Voice Mail Message to another Number/Voice Mailbox


    Forwarding is not an Option on a message that is marked "Private"

    After you have listened to a message, you may forward a copy of the message to another local mailbox.

    After you have heard the message, press 5

    Enter the recipient’s phone number

    Dial the 10 digit phone number that you want to forward to, then press #

    (to forward to more than one mailbox, follow spoken prompts)

    An announcement will indicate who will receive the message.

    You may add additional recipient’s numbers to forward to at this time.

    To record your message press # now

    You must record a brief introduction to this message
    (minimum 5 seconds)

    Press any key when finished.
  • ISDN AT&T 6508 *69
    This feature is available on ISDN telephone lines only

  • ISDN AT&T 6508 Call Block
    This service is only available on ISDN lines.

    Allows customer to place up to 12 directory numbers on a screening list. The numbers on this list will be given an announcement that the customer is NOT accepting calls at this time.

    To activate, lift the handset and dial the Call Block Access Code, *60. A recording will announce whether the Call Block feature is on or off, how many numbers are on your list, if any, and if any numbers are marked PRIVATE. It will also instruct you to press 3 to turn the service on.

    Once the service has been turned on, you may add or delete from the screening list by lifting the handset and dialing *60. The recording will announce that the Call Block feature is turned on. You will now hear a series of announcements indicating How many numbers are on the screening list, if any, and instructions on how to add to, delete from, or verify the list.

    You may cancel the Call Block feature at any time by pressing #60.

  • ISDN AT&T 6508 Set Clock
    1. Press PROGRAM button, then press CLOCK button. 
    2. Press * to change the month/day/year/hour minutes or press # to save that selection and advance to the the next option. When finished, press # again to save and confirm changes. You will hear an audible confirmation tone.
  • ISDN AT&T 6508 Tips
    *69 – Automatic Call Return
    Allows you to return a call from the last person that called you without having to know the number. Lift the handset and dial *69. An announcement will be heard stating the last number that called your line, if available. If the
    number is identified, you may dial it back by pressing “1”.

    Call Appearances
    The column on the right-hand side of the phone that indicates whether or not a line is currently in use. If a line is in use the yellow light will be solid. If a line is on hold, the yellow light will blink. Telephone Services programs the telephone numbers that are associated with the lights. You are responsible for programming the memory locations
    to match the lights. See Memory Locations below. If you have new telephone numbers installed you will need to fill out the ISDN Call Appearances form on our web site under Order Service.

    Clock – Program
    PROGRAM + Clock (same as Transfer button)
    Press * to change month/day/year/hour minutes or Press # to Save that selection and advance to the next option. When finished, press # again to save and confirm changes.

    Conference
    No Charge Conference Bridge – You can place a 3-party or 6 party conference bridge from any phone on campus. There is no charge for bridging capabilities but are you responsible for all long distance charges.

    3-Party Conference Call
    Includes host & 2 other parties
    1. Lift handset
    2. Key in the number of the first party
    3. Wait for answer and announce that you are setting up a conference call
    4. Press Conference (this will give you dial tone again)
    5. Key in the number of the 2nd party
    6. Wait for answer and announce that you are setting up a conference call
    7. Press Conference (this will join all three parties together
    Six  Party Conference Call - Includes host & Five other parties
    1. Lift handset
    2. Key in 681 (key this in once at the beginning of the call)
    3. Dial the number of the first party
    4. Wait for answer and announce that you are setting up a conference call
    5. Press Conference (this will give you dial tone again)
    6. Key in the number of the 2nd party
    7. Wait for answer and announce that you are setting up a conference call
    8. Press Conference
    9. Key in the number of the next party
    10. Wait for answer and announce that you are setting up a conference call
    11. Repeat the last two steps until all parties are on the line.

    Hold
    Press this button and your current call will be placed on Hold.
    The yellow indicator light will blink.

    Forwarding
    Programming a number into memory
    1. *58
    2. Dial # to forward calls to (5 digits on-campus)
    3. Wait for confirmation tone
    4. Hang up
    5. Your calls will not be forwarded until you activate the feature. See below.
    Activating
    Press the “h’ button, light will appear. All calls will be forwarded to the number that you have programmed into memory. To deactivate, press the “h” button again, light will go out.

    Memory Locations
    Programming Speed Dials

    PROGRAM:
    1. Key in telephone number (5 digits on-campus)
    2. Press SHIFT
    3. Then press the button on the right-hand side where you want the number stored.
    4. You will get a confirmation tone.
    To Check existing Memory Locations.
    Press DISPLAY, then SHIFT, then the button you want to inquire. The telephone number that is currently programmed in that location will appear in the display.

    Pick Groups
    You can pick up a ringing call from anyone in your pick up group by pressing the “h” button.

    Ring Volume
    Press the up and down arrows on either side of Volume to adjust volume.

    Speaker
    Press SPEAKER, Conversation can now be completely hands-free. To switch back to the handset, hit the SPEAKER button again, or depress and release the hookswitch.

    Transfer
    1. Press the Transfer button,
    2. then dial 5-XXXX (on-campus #) or 9+XXX-XXXX (local #)
    3. Announce the call,
    4. Press the Transfer button again.
    5. Both parties are connected
    Using Memory Locations
    1. Press TRANSFER, then SHIFT, then select the Memory Location that you want to transfer to,
    2. Announce the call,
    3. Press the Transfer button again.
    4. Both parties are connected.
    NOTE: The transfer to # must ring at least once before you hit the TRANSFER button again. If the line is busy, no answer or an incorrect #, press DROP to, return to your initial calling party. 

    Volume
    1. Press the up and down arrows to adjust Volume 3 ways:
    2. Ringer – when NOT on an active call
    3. Receiver – when Handset is lifted
    4. Speaker – when Speaker is activated

  • ISDN AT&T 6508 VIP Alert
    This feature is available on ISDN lines only.

    Allows customer to recognize calls from numbers on their "Very Important People" list by a distinctive ring tone. To activate this service, dial the VIP Alert access code, *61. The recording will announce if the service is on or off, how to activate it and also how to add VIP numbers to your list. Follow the recorded instructions to activate, or cancel the service with #61 at any time.

  • Picking Up Calls
    Group Call Pick-up -
    allows you to intercept calls directed to another station within the same pick-up group, without having to know the ringing station's number. Only members of your assigned pick-up group can answer calls for other group members.

    To pick up a group call, lift handset and key in *6#, the call will transfer to your phone. To verify or change your pick-up group, contact Telephone Services.

    Directed Call Pick-up –
    allows you to answer a specific ringing Telephone even if it is outside of your assigned pick-up group. Lift handset and key in #0 and the ringing station’s 5-digit phone number. The call will transfer to your phone.

  • Tracing a Call
    Call Tracing Service enables the customer to request an automatic trace of the last call answered, even if that person hangs up. The trace will provide the originating telephone number, duration, time and date of call. Long distance calls will receive time of day and central office trunk only. This information will be provided to the Moscow Police Department. The party initiating the trace will need to contact them directly at 208-882-5551. NOTE: There will be a nominal fee applied to your billing for each trace attempt.

    To activate the Call Tracing, lift the handset and dial the Call Tracing access code, *57. A recording will come on the line saying that the call has been traced and how to proceed. Take note of the 1-800 number listed for pursuing additional information. If the trace was not successful, a recording will explain how to proceed. This feature may not be cancelled once the *57 is dialed.

  • Transferring a Call
    This feature allows a station user to transfer a call to another number.

    First, ask the caller to wait while you transfer their call to another number, and then press one of the folllowing keys: flash, link or transfer.

    Then key in the desired phone number to transfer to and wait for the party to answer. Once you have reached the new party, announce the call and hang up. The call is automatically transferred.
