UIdaho Summer Session
Summer session offers flexible class schedules, a great course selection and convenient online classes. Complete your general education requirements or make up credits you need to stay on track.
- Same course. Same credit. Faster pace.
- Smaller classes. More personal attention.
- Save money. No out-of-state tuition.
Continuing students
If you’ve taken courses from University of Idaho within the past two years, you’re already active in our system and don’t need to go through the online admission process. You may simply register for courses as you would for fall and spring semesters.
First-time students
If you’ve never taken classes at U of I, or it has been two years since you were last enrolled, you are required to complete an admissions application. Once your application is successfully submitted, you will receive a notification via email.
Courses
Part of a year-round educational opportunity that compliments fall and spring semesters, summer session gives everyone the chance to fill prerequisites, complete general education requirements, makeup credits to stay on track for graduation, take credits to graduate early, or take classes for personal/professional growth.
Check out the class schedule for a full list of course offerings and review the catalogs for course descriptions.

Dates and deadlines
Course policies
Credit load
The maximum credit load allowed for summer session is 18 credits for undergraduates and 16 credits for graduates. However, because of the short duration of most summer course offerings, students should exercise caution in deciding on their summer credit load. You are urged to consult with your academic advisor prior to registering. Registration for courses with conflicting or overlapping meeting times is prohibited. You are prohibited from registering for two 1-credit workshops in the same week.
Adding or dropping courses
Deadlines for adding, dropping or withdrawing from a course vary according to the duration of the course, see the academic dates and deadlines. All registration activity is done through MyUI.
Auditing courses
Auditing a course consists of attendance without participation or credit. Audited courses are recorded on the transcript. If you choose to audit a course, you must pay the regular course fees. A Change of Registration Form must be signed by the instructor and submitted to the Registrar’s Office by the deadline to audit a course.
Course prerequisites
Course prerequisites are enforced for registration, meaning you can register only when the prerequisites have been met, or instructor permission is granted. Course prerequisites are details in the course descriptions in the course catalog.
Transfer credits
Summer final grades are posted in MyUI and are viewable once processed by the Registrar's Office.
Summer transcripts
Grades are posted to transcripts periodically throughout the summer; refer to transcript ordering information.
Costs and financial aid
Tuition and fees
Fees are charged on a per-credit-hour basis.
For the full list of fees, visit Student Accounts and Cashiers.
Web and hybrid course fees are in addition to the regular per-credit-hour fees.
Fees and other charges are subject to change and are effective when adopted by the U of I Board of Regents. Dollar amounts are listed for advisory purposes and may change. Note that many courses carry lab fees or special fees in addition to the per-credit-hour fees listed above.
Non-payment
You will not be dropped from courses for non-payment. You will be responsible for any charges to your account due to non-payment.
Avoid being billed (and possibly graded) for courses you've decided not to take: Drop them online before the first day of class.
If you drop a course after the posted drop date in any session, you may be subject to a penalty (see dates and deadlines).
Questions regarding fees or refunds should be directed to Student Accounts at 208-885-7447 or acctrec@uidaho.edu.
Financial aid
Summer financial aid is extremely limited. Contact the Financial Aid Office for further information.
Payment process and options
Payment
Payment in full is due prior to, or on, the first day of class for which you are enrolled. Payment plans are available. You will receive billing notification in your VandalMail when you register for classes at least two weeks before the session begins.
It is your responsibility to activate your VandalMail . All official university communication is sent to your VandalMail account. You must also notify the university of your current mailing and permanent address. You may update your address information in MyUI.
Late fees begin on the fourth day of scheduled classes for any session for accounts that have an owing balance over $300 or aren't set up in a payment plan. If you cannot make payment or furnish proof of financial aid by the date indicated, you should contact Student Accounts at 208-885-7447. or acctrec@uidaho.edu.
Payment options available
Credit card payments for fees, tuition and room and board are not accepted at the cashier’s window; these payments need to be made online through MyUI. U of I assesses a 2.85% fee (minimum $3) on all online credit card payments.
You may pay in person using cash or check at the cashier’s window.
The university’s payment application allows you to pay online with a checking account and is not subject to the 2.85% fee.
If an agency is to be billed for fees, the billing authorization should be sent to the Student Accounts/Cashiers Office. (If you are responsible for a portion of the fees, you must also pay your portion of the fees prior to the payment deadline. The billing authorization should accompany your portion of the fees.) In the case of reciprocal education agreement forms, the form must be presented at the time of fee payment, before the payment deadline.
If you intend to pay with financial aid funds, you can confirm this by using the MyUI student registration system.
For complete information, visit the Student Accounts website or contact them at 208-885-7447 or acctrec@uidaho.edu.
You will not be dropped for failure to pay fees. Make sure to drop courses when there has been a change of plans. Failure to drop courses can result in being billed and graded for courses.
Outstanding obligations
All fees and outstanding obligations from previous semesters must be paid in full before registering for summer session. Fees may be paid in person at the cashier’s window in the Bruce M. Pitman Center with a check or debit card. A personal check or money order may be mailed to:
