When comparing data of two varieties, values must differ by a value equal to or greater than the LSD given at the bottom of each data column.  If they do not, they were probably not different in this test.
1Design was a randomized complete block with 8 replications.  Plots were 1-row, 22 ft long.  The test was planted May 2, 2000 and harvested October 23, 2000.
2Beets/100' of row were calculated from stand counts a few weeks after thinning.  Harvest count is the mean number of roots per plot scored for reaction to rhizomania.
3Four of the eight replications were scored for reaction to rhizomania.  Roots were mechanically lifted and each root was scored on a scale of 0 to 9, where 9 is the most severe.  Roots scored 0 to 4 were considered resistant and 5 to 9 considered susceptible.  Most roots in the resistant category were scored as 3 and most in the susceptible category were scored as 5 to 7.
