The Women’s Center’s ongoing educational programming efforts include numerous national and international commemorative, celebratory, and awareness-raising days, weeks and months of observance relating to issues that affect women on a daily basis.

Every fall, in observance of national Domestic Violence Prevention Month and LGBTQ History Month, the University of Idaho hosts Take Back the Night. An opportunity to take a stand, break the silence, and reclaim the night in protest of all forms of violence and assault.

The Vagina Monologues
V-Day is a global activist movement to stop violence against women and girls. V-Day is a catalyst that promotes creative events to increase awareness, raise money, and revitalize the spirit of existing anti-violence organizations. V-Day generates broader attention for the fight to stop violence against women and girls, including rape, battery, incest, female genital mutilation (FGM), and sex slavery.

Virginia Wolf Awards
Every year, the University of Idaho Women’s Center hosts an evening reception to honor the recipients of our Virginia Wolf Distinguished Service Awards. Each year, one U-Idaho student, one faculty or staff member, and one community member receive the award.

Women's Equality Day
In 1971, U.S. Congress designated August 26 as “Women’s Equality Day.” The date was selected to commemorate the 1920 passage of the 19th Amendment to the Constitution, granting women the right to vote.
