NOTICE REGARDING SHIP WAIVER REQUESTS
SHIP Waiver acceptance is tentative pending completion of the insurance waiver audit. Waiver Policy information is on pages 2 and 3 of the SHIP Brochure and on the SHIP website under Waiver Policy.
Insurance MUST MEET the requirements below to qualify for a waiver:
- Be valid health insurance (cost sharing or medical discount programs DO NOT qualify for a waiver).
- Effective on or before the first day of the semester waiver is requested.
- Continuous and verifiable for the entire semester (no termination or break).
- Cover both illness and injury.
- Have a lifetime maximum of at least $500,000.
- Cover injury while participating in intramural, club, or NCAA intercollegiate sports programs (if student is participating in such programs).
If submitted insurance does not meet the requirements above final acceptance of a SHIP waiver will not be granted. Waiver status notifications are sent to the student’s official Vandal email account. Student will be enrolled in SHIP for each semester of attendance. The charge for medical insurance will be placed on the student account. The Student Financial Aid Office and Student Accounts Office can assist with financial questions and payment arrangements.
Paper copies of the SHIP Brochures will only be sent by regular mail upon specific requests sent by email. If you are requesting a paper copy please include the address you would like it sent to.
The SHIP Annual Open Enrollment/Waiver deadline is September 8, 2012.
Proof of Valid Health Insurance
The Idaho State Board of Education requires proof of valid health insurance as a condition of enrollment. This policy is mandatory for all Idaho public universities and colleges and applies to all degree-seeking undergraduate and graduate students physically enrolled for classes or completing other required degree work within the state of Idaho.
International Student Requirements
The health insurance requirement applies to all international students enrolled at the Moscow campus or UI centers regardless of degree-seeking status or credit hours. International students are required to purchase SHIP for themselves and their accompanying dependents, or provide evidence of comparable health insurance coverage that meets or exceeds the University of Idaho requirements. International students must complete a separate waiver process through the International Programs Office.
Medicaid
Students who are covered by Medicaid will only be allowed to waive participation in the SHIP if the coverage is provided by the state of Washington or the state of Idaho.
