Tips for parents:

  • Interview sitters and thoroughly check their references. The University of Idaho and the University of Idaho Women's Center do NOT train or screen sitters.
  • Provide the sitter with as much information as possible.
  • Find out if the sitter has any allergies, dietary concerns, fear of pets, or special needs.
  • Discuss payment directly with the sitter. Current rates vary depending on the sitter's experience and your number of children.
  • If possible, post your request early to allow plenty of time to select a sitter.
  • Plan to drop in unannounced on your sitter so that you can evaluate child-sitter interaction.
  • Trust your gut-level instincts! Do NOT hire someone if you feel uneasy about them.
