Mental Health First Aid Courses

Mental Health First Aid is a groundbreaking public education program that is offered on the University of Idaho campus to help staff, faculty and students understand, and respond to signs of mental illnesses and substance use disorders.  This is an interactive 12-hour course that presents an overview of:

  • mental illness and substance use disorders
  • risk factors and warning signs of mental health problems
  • understanding the impact of mental illness
  • knowledge of common treatments 
Those who take the 12-hour course to certify as Mental Health First Aiders learn a 5-step action plan encompassing the skills, resources and knowledge to help an individual in crisis connect with appropriate professional, peer, social, and self-help care.

Courses will be held throughout the academic year.

Course costs are $20 per participant and can be paid by the individual or a department budget on the first day of the course.
