The Vandal Fitness Challenge (VFC) is a competition among the Vandal community that is based on fitness, health, and wellness improvements and performance.  The competition begins with an initial testing (January 29 & 30), continues with 6 weeks of self-guided fitness activities, and ends with a final testing (March 11 & 12).  Along the way, several resources will be provided for any participant looking for advice on how to make positive fitness, health, and wellness changes.   For additional information please review the drop down boxes below.

  • What is the VFC?

    What is the VFC?

    Vandal Fitness Challenge is a 6 week fitness challenge for UI students, staff and faculty.
    Dates:  January 29 - March 12.
    Registration cost $10. 

  • Eligibility
    To be eligible to win the Vandal Fitness Challenge, participant must be a UI student, complete initial and final fitness tests, and complete 5 of the 6 weekly surveys.

    Register in person at the initial testing (January 29 & 30 at the Student Recreation Center).  There is a $10 registration fee that can be charged to your student account or use your credit card to pay online at initial testing.

  • What does it cost?

    Registration fee of $10.  Your fee includes a water bottle upon initial testing completion.   After completing the 6 week VFC, you will receive a t-shirt and be entered into a drawing for a new bike!  

    This registration fee can be charged to your student account or you can pay with your credit card online at the time of initial testing (January 29 & 30).

  • Testing Criteria

    Participants are initially tested in the first week of the challenge.  Initial testing consists of 6 basic fitness tests:

    • Body Fat Testing (bioelectrical impedance testing will be used)

    • Box Squat Thrust (as many repetitions as possible in 1 minute)

    • Bent Arm Plank (as long as possible)

    • TRX Row Hold (as long as possible)

    • Line Sprints (as many repetitions as possible in 2 minutes)

    • Flexibility Testing

    After the first week of initial testing each participant has 6 weeks to participate in healthy fitness and nutrition plans before the final testing.
  • Fitness Categories
    Average Joe and Jane - For those who are active and/or workout, but are looking to make improvements.

    Athletic Joe and Jane - For those who are very active and/or workout frequently.

    Aspirational Joe and Jane - For those who are rarely active and/or workout infrequently, but want to make positive changes.
  • Prizes

    $100 gift card for winners in each category, male and female bike and weekly gift cards drawings for survey completions.  

    Upon initial testing completion, you will receive a water bottle.   After completing the 6 week VFC, you will receive your VFC t-shirt and be entered into a drawing for a new bike!

    Thursday, January 29 12-1:30pm and 5-7:30pm
    Friday, January 30 12-1:30pm and 5-7:30pm

    3-4pm in the SRC Classroom.  Advice on proper nutrition for your fitness goals, presented by the Campus Dietitian, Marissa Rudley.

    Monday, February 23
    5:30-6:30pm in the SRC Classroom.  How sleep can help you achieve your fitness goals.

    Tuesday, March 3
    12-1pm in the SRC Classroom.  The impact stress has on your overall health and fitness.

    Wednesday, Mach 11
    6-7pm in the SRC Classroom.  Motivation beyond the Vandal Fitness Challenge. 

    Workshops are Free and all are welcome!
