About The Vandal Fitness Challenge is a 10 week fitness challenge for students, staff, and faculty. Participants are initially tested in the first week of the challenge. The testing consists of 6 basic fitness tests; dot jumps, pushups, situps, plank time, flexibilty and body fat percentage.  

Dates are January 29 - April 4.

Final Testing is on April 2nd-4th at the times of: 
 
  • Wednesday April 2nd 11:30am-1:30pm & 4:30-6:30pm
  • Thursday April 3rd 11:30am-1:30pm & 4:30-6:30pm
  • Friday April 4th 11:30am-1:30pm & 4:30-6:30pm

  • Description:

    Participants are initially tested in the first week of the challenge.

    Initial testing consists of 6 basic fitness tests:

    • Body Composition - measured using a bio-electrical impedance device.
    • Body Weight Box Squat - maximum repetitions in 2 minutes.
    • Push-Ups - maximum repetitions without stopping or resting.
    • TRX Body Weight Rows - maximum repetitions without stopping or resting.
    • TRX "AR" Hold - maximum duration for both sides of the body. "AR" sands for anti-rotation and challenges the core muscles of the body.
    • Standing Hip &Trunk Flexion - distance measured between the fingertips and the floor.
    After the first week of initial testing each participant has 9 weeks to participate in healthy fitness and nutrition plans before the final testing.
  • Judging Criteria

    Judging Criteria

    Categories are based on different fitness aspiration and each participant can choose which category they would like to enter. Categories are Average "Joe/Jane", Mighty "Joe/Jane" and Aspirational Joe/Jane. Men and women are in separate divisions.
  • Average Joe and Jane

    Average Joe and Jane

    Based on improvement. Scoring will be based on improvement of the participant from initial testing to final testing with regard to the fitness test.

    1. Criteria is on improvement, including body comp and testing numbers.
    2. Consistency, weekly surveys and workouts.
    3. New activities (went to cooking classes, walked to school, or volunteered at humane society to walk the dogs).
  • Mighty Joe and Jane

    Mighty Joe and Jane

    Category is based on performance. Scoring will be based on the best fitness tests for each participant, regardless if it was the initial or final test.
    1. Consistency in workouts with progressive improvement and surveys.
    2. Improvement testing numbers duration and quantity and body comp numbers.
    3. Adding new components such as healthy eating or trying new workout activities.

  • Eligibility
    To be eligible to win the Vandal Fitness Challenge, participant must be a UI student, complete initial and final fitness tests, and complete 8 weeks of activity and food logs.

    There is a $10 registration fee. Upon initial testing completion, you will receive a water bottle, and upon completion of the challenge, A Vandal Fitness Challenge T-shirt and entered into a drawing for a new bike
