Climbing_Wall

Climbing Center

Located in the Student Recreation Center. The Climbing Center features a 55 ft. pillar, 24 ft. instructional wall, a cave and a bouldering wall totaling 6,000 sq. ft. of climbing area.

Fees for Open Climbing:

(*Participants must have completed The Basics Clinic or pass a belay check)

  • U of I Students & SRC pass holders: No Charge
  • Daily Drop-in: $7.00
  • Season Pass covering 4-months (non-student): $84.00 with tax + $10 card fee for non Vandal card holders

Basic Clinic

  • U of I Students $7.00
  • Non-Students: $12.00

Advanced Skills Clinics 

Rotating topics each week.  Wednesday evenings at 6pm.  Sign-up in advance at the Climbing Center.  $7 includes equipment.

Equipment Rental

  • Harness & Belay Device: $3.00
  • Shoes: $4.00

Climbing Programs

Participants must:

  • Be 18 or older
  • View Orientation Video (must view at climbing center)
  • Complete an assumption of risk form
  • Pass a belay test or attend a basics clinic
  • Printable Release Form 

The Basics Clinic

Acquire the basic skills you need to start climbing safely on the wall; equipment, knots, belaying and basic movment.

When Fall/Spring: Tuesday 5 pm, Wednesday 1 pm, Thursday 7pm

Cost Students = $7 Non-students = $12

Youth Programs

Youth Open Climbing Program - (Fall/Spring: Saturday 9 - 2 pm, and all open times during university breaks)
All participants are required to attend a (one time) Youth Basics Clinic and parents or legal guardian must complete an assumption of risk form at the climbing center. Parents or legal guardians are invited to stay and watch or participate with their child. (must meet open climbing qualifications to participate) Children 13 years & under are designated as “Climber Only” and must be accompanied by a registered Climbing Center parent/guardian.

Participants must:

  • Attend a Basics Clinic
  • Have parents or guardian complete an assumption of risk form
  • Printable Release Form (pdf)
