Mission Statement

The mission of the University of Idaho Student Chapter of the Wildlife Society is to:

i. Provide the opportunities for Wildlife students to gain experience in the various aspects of the Wildlife Profession.

ii. Gain contacts in the professional world for summer work and possible permanent job opportunities.

iii. Promote proper stewardship of the Natural Resources which we will be managing in our future careers as wildlife professionals.

Welcome to the University of Idaho chapter of The Wildlife Society!

The student chapter of The Wildlife Society was established to give students in the Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources an opportunity to expand their knowledge of the discipline. The local student chapter is affiliated with the national organization based in Washington, D.C., and sponsors projects, speakers and field trips. Throughout the year, professors, graduate students, and guest speakers give presentations on diverse wildlife issues. Other chapter activities include social gatherings, films, fund-raisers, and field trips.

One of the chapter's annual projects is the cleaning and repair of the mounted animals displayed throughout the college . The chapter has also helped the Idaho Department of Fish and Game with springtime surveys of goose nests on the Clearwater River and hatchling counts at Turnbull Resevoir. Students provide litter control on a stretch of highway which they have adopted. Some members represent the University of Idaho chapter at the annual Western Students' Wildlife Conclave. There they meet students with similar interests, attend talks and lectures, and compete in the Wildlife Quiz Bowl.
