Meeting Minutes for September 9, 2004
Hey wildlifers!
Meeting Minutes for September 9, 2004
Hey Everybody,
We had our first meeting of the semester last night and we had 60 people show up, a great showing! We had pizza and went over a few items and upcoming events. I apologize that the meeting minutes are a little late getting out, but the club's hotmail account isn't working right now, so I'm sending this email out from my personal email address. Here's what we talked about...
~Updating the Contact List~
If you're receiving this then you've put your name on the new contact list and we thank you for wanting to be involved. You'll be receiving meeting minutes and other announcements at this address in the future.
~The Wildlife Society National Meeting in Calgary~
Six of us will be attending the National TWS meeting in Calgary September 18-21st. We'll be attending lectures and workshops on widlife related issues and hopefully we'll have a lot of good information to bring back to the club. We'll also be competing in the quiz bowl again to defend our title as Wester Division Champions, so wish us luck!
~Highway Cleanup & Trap Shoot October 3rd~
We will be cleaning up our stretch of highway out near Deary on October 3rd. Following the cleanup, we'll be heading out to do some trap shooting. The club will be providing shells and clays too. It'll be a great time, you just have to pick up a little bit of highway first. We haven't set an exact time to leave yet, so we'll announce the details and send around a sign-up sheet at the next meeting.
~Waterfowl Checkstations October 2nd & 3rd~
We will be volunteering with the Idaho Dept. of Fish and Game up in Coeur d'Alene, checking duck hunters as they come off the lake. This is a good opportunity to get to meet some professionals at Fish and Game and get some valuable experience. There is a max of 4 volunteers/ day and currently all slots have been filled. For those of you who signed up, please contact us if you can't make it and we will notify the club if there are any new openings.
UPCOMING EVENTS....
~Big Game Checkstations in October and November~
We will be volunteering with the Idaho (and possibly Oregon) Dept. of Fish and Game helping them with checking hunters at checkstations. This involves checking tags and taking samples for chronic wasting disease, etc. This is great experience, food and housing provided, and it's also a great chance to get to know some people at Fish and Game. We will have more information on dates, locations, and times at the upcoming meetings.
~Turnbull Wood Duck Boxes~
In the past we have helped with setting up Wood Duck boxes in the Spring. We might get the opportunity to help with it this fall too. There will be more information on this activity soon.
~Pygmy Rabbitt work with Janet Rachlow~
We have been working on planning some volunteer activities helping Janet Rachlow on her pygmy rabbitt research project. We would be doing some burrowing surveys and some mark and recapture of rabbitts as well. We're looking at doing this in October/ November and January/ February too. This is an estimated time, we'll announce details as they are available.
~Possible Trips~
We have been tossing around the idea of going to the Wildlife Rehabilitation Center in Lewiston and also to the Winchester Wolf Education Research Center. If you're interested in these activities, let us know and we'll start to see when it would be possible to take a trip like this.
~Fundraisers~
In order for us to do some fun trips and also some awesome projects such as weekend camping trips, snowboarding/skiing trips, snow camping, etc we need to get you all involved in fundraising. We have a lot of awesome ideas from you all and would love to do more activities this year, so we're going to need your help with fundraising to make those possible. If you have any new ideas, please let us know too. We will be having a soup feed in October and we'll discuss that at our next meeting. Thank you for your help!
~Treasury Report~
We have just under $1,000 right now. A portion of that will be used for the meeting in Calgary. We will be receiving $660 from the Alumni Board, which is less than we have received in the past due to limited funds. Therefore, those fundraisers will be really important for us!
~Member Dues!~
If you haven't already paid your dues, you must pay them before participating in the cleanup/ trap shoot or any other activities. They are $6/semester or $10/year and you can pay those to Corey at the next meeting.
~SAC Rep~
We need a new SAC rep for Wildlife Society to attend SAC meetings and communicate between SAC and TWS. We got a couple names of people who are interested in taking this position and we will be voting and electing a new SAC Rep at our next meeting.
