I'll try to make these minutes brief, here's the rundown on the meeting this last Thursday, March 24th...
OLD NEWS~
*Conclave Report*
Several of us in TWS attended the Western Conclave and just returned during Spring Break. It went really well, we attended field trips, talks, and took 1st in the quiz bowl for the 2nd year in a row!!
*Turkey Trapping with IDFG*
Unfortunately we weren't needed for turkey trapping this season, but Idaho Dept. of Fish and Game wanted to thank us all for signing up to help.
NEWS~
*Temporary employment opportunities*
An outfitter on the St. Joe spoke with us briefly and expressed interest in hiring hunting and fishing guides. We have his business card, so if you are interested, just let us know and we'll get you the information.
*Vandal Friday*
We did really well at Vandal Friday today. We were a little short on help at the table, but we met a lot of interested incoming students and got a lot of new people signed up for club contacts.
*Turnbull Wildlife Refuge Trip Saturday, March 26th*
This Saturday, March 26th we will be traveling to Turnbull Wildlife Refuge to check wood duck boxes. If you are interested in going, we will be leaving from the gravel parking lot by the power plant at 8:30 and space is somewhat limited, so if you can drive, that would be great.
*April 1st deadline for awards*
Just wanted to let you know that April 1st is the deadline to nominate people in CNR for outstanding, advisor, faculty, boot in the butt, etc. Forms can be found in the dean's office.
*April 2nd Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation Banquet*
The Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation Banquet will be in Moscow on April 2nd. If you would like to help volunteer with setting up, they could use the help. Reply if you are interested.
*April 1-3rd The Nature Conservancy -Garden Creek*
We will be departing from the gravel parking lot at 3:00 on Friday, April 1st and returning Sunday, April 3rd. We are going up the Snake River by jet boat to stay the weekend at TNC Garden Creek ranch and volunteer to help with planting. We will be carpooling down. Food, cabin, jet boat ride, etc is all paid for. You just need to bring your own snacks, and anything else in particular you might want. You must be a dues paying member to go ($6). If you are interested, please let us know ASAP.
*April 7th TWS Meeting- Nominations!*
On April 7th we will have guest speaker Karen Goldberg on amphibians and we will be doing club officer nominations, so don't miss it!
*April 11-16 Natural Resources Week*
There will be numerous guest speakers, events, and activities during Natural Resources Week. We will update you again at the next meeting, but be looking for those upcoming events.
*April 16th Research Techniques Clinic*
On Saturday, April 16th we will be having the RTC here at the CNR and on campus. Everyone is welcome and we encourage you to attend and bring friends. It is free and we will be having people from IDFG, USFS, faculty, and grad students leading sessions on various research techniques. At the next meeting we will have flyers and 1/2 handout flyers for you guys to hand out to people and distribute on campus. This is going to be an awesome event, so please mark it down and come!! It should be a great time and we also have lots of free door prizes too! If you are interested in helping with any aspect of the clinic we would greatly appreciate it. Just get back to me!
*April 21st Last TWS Meeting of the Semester- Officer Elections!*
We will be voting in new officers at this meeting, so be sure not to miss it!
*April 24th Highway Cleanup and Trapshoot*
We will be cleaning up trash along our section of highway and then having a casual trapshoot afterwards, so keep it in mind!
*IDFG Volunteer Opportunities*
Matt Bruns from IDFG came and spoke to us about opportunities to volunteer radio tagging bull trout at Dworshak Resevoir. They need 1-2 people every day of the week to fish. They provide food and fishing tackle. (doesn't get much better than this!) It will run April 15th - end of May. *Student Research Presentations*
We had three undergrads present their summer research work. Sarah Malick took 2nd at Conclave for research presentation and Javan Bauder took 1st Place! Congratulations! Their presentations were great, thanks guys for presenting!
