Meeting Minutes February 17, 2005

Wildlifers!

Hey All~

The meeting tonight was pretty quick, we'll have more new stuff and details to announce at the next meeting which will be March 3rd, 6:00 pm rm. 108. Don't forget to mark your calendar...we're going to have Tom Parce who is a local trapper that has a long trapping history and a lot of experience. He's going to be talking to us about nuisance trapping and research trapping of fur-bearers and carnivores. He has trapped for organizations, businesses, and on an individual basis. If you have any interest or questions about trapping fur bearers and carnivores, he's a good person to ask. So don't miss it!

Here's the hightlights of tonight's meeting....

OLD NEWS....

*Igloo building trip was cancelled.

If you are interested in doing some sort of other trip (maybe to Stanley hotsprings or elsewhere?) then just let us know your suggestions.

*Career fair last week-

there were a lot of employers for all fields, those that attended said it went really well. Thanks to all of you who helped with the set-up and clean-up.

WHAT'S COMING UP...

*Soup feed next Wednesday, February 23rd from 11-sold out.

We really need some more people to bring soup, we're really short on people for soup!! If you can bring soup, we have extra crock pots, so just let us know and we'll give you one. We could also use extra help with selling soup, etc. If you can help or bring anything please email Mackenzie at shar3840@uidaho.edu. We appreciate your help!

*Vandal Friday March 25th from 9-10:30

We will be having a table again at Vandal Friday to talk to incoming freshman about TWS and get them to sign up, talk to them about what we do, etc. A lot of us have class, so if you can help, please let us know, it's only for an hour and a half. We need help with set up and just talking to people. If you can help please email us.

*Turnbull Wildlife Refuge volunteering

We will have some dates soon for possible weekends to volunteer checking wood duck boxes at the wildlife refuge, probably the end of March. We will have more info at the next meeting.

*NEW TWS t-shirts

Tonight we voted on shirt colors. We are going to probably be getting spruce green t-shirts with white print. They're going to be nice t-shirts, so they're worth the price. They'll probably be about $15 or so, we'll have the final word after they are ordered. We passes around a sheet for people to pre-order so they get the size they want, otherwise people can choose from what's available of the extra sizes we order. If you want a specific size email Corey ASAP at shak6567@uidaho.edu since he will be ordering them soon.

*Volunteering at the Wildlife Rehabilitation Center in Lewiston

We have the opportunity to volunteer at the rehab center in Lewiston cleaning up the facility and doing other tasks. We're unsure of the dates right now, but it will be coming up. We will have more info for you at the upcoming meetings.

*SAC Report- CNR Week and Field Day

We are really trying to do some fun stuff for CNR week this year. In the past we have usually had a meeting and a guest speaker and we're looking to do something new that could involve the whole college. If you have any ideas of what we could do, please let one of us officers know. Field Day is when local 4th and 5th graders come to do activities such as predator-prey games, etc with us at the CNR. For both of these activities we're going to need some people to help out. If you are interested in helping with either of these activities please email Mackenzie and let her know. We could really use the help!

*Research Techniques Clinic Saturday, April 16th

So far we have 7 topics and possibly more, ranging from mist netting birds to wildlife necropsies and fish pit tagging. This will be the first year this is going on and it is open to anyone. We encourage you guys to mark your calendars and talk to other people about it. This is an awesome opportunity for students to get hands on experience with some of the most common and important techniques that you will use in the field for work. We're going to have grad students, faculty, and even people from IDFG, USFS, etc. We're also going to have door prizes and raffles, so keep it in mind and please spread the word!!

*Award nominations for students and faculty

If you know a student, faculty member, advisor, etc you can nominate them for ASUI awards. Just go online to ASUI website and nominate someone you think does and awesome job.

That's it for the minutes everybody. Hope you all have an awesome 3-day weekend. And don't forget about the March 3rd meeting, we'll have some important stuff to talk about and an awesome guest speaker! See you then!

Thanks,

TWS
