ALI Association of Latin Americans and Iberians at the University of Idaho Constitution Article
I: Name This organization shall be known as Association of Latin Americans and Iberians at the University of Idaho. The acronym of ALI shall be used for the purpose of this constitution. Article II: Mission, Vision, and Purpose Mission To cultivate and project the Latin American and Iberian culture to the University of Idaho and the United States. Vision To establish a permanent interaction with the surrounding community that guarantees the fulfillment of the mission. Section
1: Association of Latin Americans and Iberians at the University of Idaho
is made up of, but not limited to students from Latin American and Iberian
countries. ALI is dedicated to multiculturalism on campus and throughout
the community. Section 2: ALI aspires to join the Latin American and Iberian students in an effort to promote the intercultural welfare, understanding, friendliness, unity and cooperation between all students and this community by sharing our culture in every way possible. ALI is a source of educational opportunities, understanding, and fun. Article
III: Membershi
p Section 1: Membership in ALI is open to any student-undergraduate or graduate- enrolled at the
University of Idaho. These members have voting privileges. Section 2: University staff and faculty, and non-University persons are welcome to the Association as associate members. However, these members
may not have voting privileges. Section 3: The requirements to become a member of ALI are to be registered in classes at the University of Idaho and to maintain a minimum GPA of 2.0. No specific major/minor is required. The minimum
GPA for members running for officer positions is 2.5. Section 4: Membership is open to everybody regardless of race, color, gender, class, nationality, disability, religion, or sexual orientation. Article
IV: Officers and duties President 1. Preside over and conduct meetings according to Parliamentary Procedures. Keep members on subject and within time limits of all meetings. 2. Appoint committees and follow up the progress of the activities assigned. 3. Keep in close communication with all of the officers, members and advisor(s). 4. Represent the association and its members. 5. Call special meetings or special officer meetings. 6. Keep ALI working in a satisfactory manner. Vice
President 1. Arrange committee schedules with the chairperson. 2. Insure that the programs that the committees plan are carried out. 3. Schedule activities on calendar. Distribute the calendar to all members. 4. Insure meetings are scheduled on the calendar and that all the members have a calendar. 5. Submit the committee reports to the secretary. 6. Be prepared to assume duties and responsibilities of President. Secretary 1. Keep authentic and neat records of the ALI proceedings. 2. Prepare and read minutes. Make all corrections and additions. 3. Keep copies of the ALI Constitution and all other ALI documents. 4. Keep attendance records of ALI meetings and provide a copy to the historian. 5. Keep an updated list of ALI members. 6. Prepare for the President the agenda for each meeting. 7. Call the roll. 8. Count and record votes. 9. Notify the members about ALI activities. 10. Have available for each meeting: a. Secretary book and minutes of previous meetings. b. List of committees and copies of their reports. c. Copy of programmed activities. d.
Updated copy of Constitution. Note: All records must be kept in both a hard and electronic copy. Treasurer 1. Receive and act as custodian of funds 2. Keep financial records 3. Devise appropriate ways and means of financing activities. 4. Pay funds as authorized. 5. Prepare financial statements and reports. 6.
Build up financial standing. Note: All records must be kept in both a hard and electronic copy. Historian 1. Prepare and arrange notes and articles for publication. 2. Prepare ALI yearbook. 3. Supply materials for reports. 4. File records provided by secretary and other members. 5.
Track articles, comments, and any other publication related to ALI
activities. Note:

V: Elections of Officers Section 1. Nominations shall be held at least two weeks before the election. Section 2. Elections shall be conducted during spring semester. Section 3. The president, or any member of the officers_ board of ALI,
or member of the advisor board who is not running for a position shall
conduct the elections.
Article
VI: Advisor Section 1. The advisor shall be a member of the faculty or staff of the University of Idaho. Section 2. The advisor shall serve as a counselor only, and shall have no vote. Article
VII: Meetings Section 1. Officers_ board meetings shall be held at least once per month. Section 2. The president shall have the right to call special meetings if the need arises. Section 3. A general member meeting shall take place at least twice a semester and shall be called by the President. |
