Alpha Gamma Delta
Greek Life

Alpha Gamma Delta was the first women's fraternity to establish an international philanthropic project. In 1920 we opened a summer camp for underprivileged children on a lake in Jackson, Michigan. Just a few years later other camps were opened around the nation. These camps were staffed by collegians and alumnae of Alpha Gamma Delta.

The Alpha Gamma Delta Foundation was created in 1962 to help support a variety of charities. Over the years this foundation has donated millions of dollars to various charities including the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, which was adopted as the official beneficiary of financial support and service of the fraternity in 1962.

The Foundation is a non-profit corporation, separate from the Fraternity's structure, administered by Trustees appointed by the Foundation Board. As an incorporated tax exempt organization, the Foundation may make financial grants to promote and support religious, charitable, scientific, literary and educational organizations and activities throughout the World. It was established to provide the vehicle through which all of the Fraternity's charitable projects are funded. the Foundation receives money through donations from chapters, clubs, individual members and friends.

Not only does that Foundation help others around the world it is set up to provide support for Alpha Gamma Delta's members in a variety of ways:

• SIS (Sisters Income Supplement) program provides financial assistance to members on an
emergency basis. The advisor of our chapter was able to achieve a grant to help rebuild
her house when it burnt down two years ago.
• Scholarships are available for graduate and undergraduate members as well as alumnae.

Alpha Gam Dodgeball Slam & Mr. Idaho

Our Alpha Gams host two philanthropies on campus each year: Dodgeball Slam in the fall & Mr. Idaho in the spring.  These events help to raise money for the foundation.

After gaining inspiration from the riveting movie "Dodgeball" the Idaho Alpha Gams threw the first annual Dodgeball tournament at the University of Idaho.  The tournament has been a huge success that is a strong tradition for our chapter.  This year, Delta Tau Delta was the champion team.

Also, recently, we have hosted a male beauty pageant, Mr. Idaho in the spring.  The men compete in a talent show, swimsuit competition, dance & interview.  This year Sam Morin, of Theta Chi was our winner.

In addition to these events, the Alpha Gams participate in many other philanthropic projects on and off campus.  These include: Make a Difference Day, BUNCO for PNDA, Hockey Youth Tournaments on the Palouse, Sigma Chi Derby Days, and AKL's AKL's in Shackles.
