Staff Affairs members took a break from the hubbub to celebrate the holiday season. After enjoying a potluck, white elephant gift exchange, and teambuilding activities, we were ready to get back to work advocating for our fellow staff!

2014 Staff Awards Reception

Awards are given to staff that have shown exemplary dedication and have gone above and beyond their normal job duties at the University of Idaho. Staff who qualify for the award are nominated by their peers and reviewed through an award process conducted by the Staff Affairs Staff Awards subcommittee. Additionally, those staff retiring from the university will also be recognized along with the longevity awards for 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40 years of service to current employees.
The nomination forms as well as the criteria for each category can be found on the Staff Awards website located at http://www.uidaho.edu/staffawards.
Nominations are due February 13, 2014, the online forms will be active January 15.
The Boise Center held their Holiday party in Legacy Pointe on Friday, December 13th. The lunch was followed by a white elephant gift exchange.
Trudy Anderson Retirement Reception
Trudy Anderson retired at the end of December. A retirement reception was held to honor her on Tuesday, December 17th.
Hot Chocolate on a Stick
A staff appreciation elf left everyone in the Coeur d'Alene office a small token of thanks prior to the holiday break. You can’t go wrong with hot chocolate on these cold winter days!
Evening with Joe
Joe Vandal joined us in Coeur d'Alene before the break for a Thirsty Thursday family event at the Coeur d'Alene Inn. It was the perfect photo opportunity for everyone’s holiday card.
Festival of Trees
It was another successful year for this year’s U-Idaho submission to the Festival of Trees. Our tree brought in $5,000 for the Kootenai Health Foundation! A big thanks to Shelly Robson and Konni Leichner for all of their hard work each year!
P3: Pizza, Posters & Presentations – December 6
The auditorium and gallery at the Center for Advanced Energy Studies came alive with students showcasing their research through posters and presentations. Participants and guests were treated to pizza for lunch. This annual event is made possible through the hard work of faculty and staff. Alice Allen coordinated the event with help from Julie Jacobson Debbie McQueen, Valerie Hathaway, Ryan Haworth and Joe Leister.

Holiday Luncheon – December 17
Holiday laughter and smiles were abundant at the Snow Eagle Grill as faculty and staff from the Idaho Falls Center and the Eastern District of Ag R&E gathered to enjoy the annual Holiday Luncheon. Carol Baldwin coordinated the lunch and conducted Autograph Bingo; beautiful decorations were put together by Alice Allen and Debbie Caudle; photos were taken by Ryan Haworth; and Marci Merrick, Julie Jacobson and Don Patterson provided planning and logistical assistance.

Supy’s Farewell – December 19
Associate Professor Supathorn Phongikaroon has left the University of Idaho for the Department of Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering at Virginia Commonwealth University. A luncheon to wish him a fond farewell was held at the Center for Advanced Energy Studies on December 6th. Faculty, staff and students presented Supy with a photo memory book to thank him for all he has done for UI-IF. Thanks to Julie Jacobson and Joanna Taylor for coordinating the event with help from Alice Allen and Ryan Haworth.
