Also, on Friday, April 6, the 40th Annual Staff Awards Ceremony will be held from 1:00 to 3:00 pm in the SUB Ballroom. Awards are given to staff that have shown exemplary dedication and have gone above and beyond their normal job duties at the UI. Staff who qualify for the award are nominated by their peers and are reviewed through an award process conducted by the Staff Affairs Staff Awards subcommittee. The Staff Awards committee will be sending out an email soon of how to nominate an outstanding staff member that you know. You may also direct your questions to firstname.lastname@example.org
Thank you to Rachel Halsey, former chair of Staff Affairs, for all of her hard work and dedication over the last six-months in moving the Staff Affairs Committee forward and reaching out to our staff community statewide. I look forward to continuing the positive momentum of Staff Affairs and would like to encourage you to contact the Staff Affairs Committee if you have any questions or concerns that impact University staff.
Remember, Staff Affairs meetings are held the second Wednesday of each month at 9:00 am—please join us to learn more about Staff Affairs and ways that you can be involved. Thank you for all that you do for the University of Idaho and our communities through the state. —Ana Burton, Chair

Science on Tap
2012 started off the new year with a presentation on personalized medicine from our very own Dr. Charles Buck. Dr. Buck is the associate vice president and center executive officer for the University of Idaho - Coeur d’Alene and director of the University of Idaho Research Park. The room was packed with people there to learn more about his exciting topic. Personalized medicine, a model of health care that customizes preventative care and treatment to individual patients, is a reality today for some patients. As scientists and physicians better understand how our genes impact our health, more and more of us will be able to prevent diseases before they happen and avoid ineffective, redundant treatments.
