The Idaho Suction Trap Network has been in operation for 17 seasons. The information generated has been distributed by means of the Aphid Flyer to alert growers to potentially damaging cereal aphid populations and virus epidemics. Based on trap data and field scouting, delayed fall planting and timely insecticide applications can increase cereal production, eliminate the need for multiple pesticide applications and in certain high risk situations, prevent crop failure. This project is primarily service oriented, and its purpose is to provide timely information to cereal producers about risk of aphid pests and virus epidemics. Additionally, we will do supportive research surveys to refine our interpretations of suction trap data.
