Security Management
Emergency and Security Services (ESS) of the University of Idaho administers emergency management and security services for the University of Idaho. As part of an enterprise-wide risk management approach reporting to the Risk Management Officer, ESS coordinates University-wide emergency management efforts including mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery.
ESS, a member of the
Western Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators, administers a comprehensive approach to security management. ESS also serves as University liaison with first responder agencies, including but not limited to Moscow Police, Fire, EMS, and the Latah County LEPC, and coordinates efforts with other appropriate University efforts, including but not limited to Student Affairs, Facilities, and Environmental Health and Safety.
Services are available for main campus, outreach, and branch locations across the state of Idaho. ESS is tasked with coordinating with law enforcement and public safety responders across the state at each University location to ensure a safe and secure environment open to fulfill the University’s mission. The Moscow campus has police officers assigned to campus from the Moscow Police Department, which has a location in the Idaho Commons. Security officers also patrol campus, primarily by foot.
ESS aids in event planning for events where alcohol is served, or events where VIPs may be visiting our campus. ESS is also tasked with
Clery Act compliance for the University and the associated duties of collecting, reporting, and notifying the campus community of Clery Act related issues.
