Student Ambassadors

Ambassador Program

The College of Science Ambassador Program is designed to incorporate exceptional undergraduate students from within our college to aid in our recruitment and retention efforts and act as the official representatives of the College of Science to the community. Students are selected to serve as ambassadors through an application and interview process. Ambassadors are trained in university processes and given opportunities to enhance their communication and leadership skills through a one-credit course taught by Daniel Stelck.

Mission

The mission of the ambassador program is to promote the College of Science in a positive and professional manner to prospective and current students as well as faculty, staff and the community. Our ambassadors work directly with various university departments in order to serve as a public relations and institutional advancement team. The College of Science ambassadors strive to represent the college in a manner that exemplifies campus pride, display a sound knowledge about the College of Science and leave a positive and lasting impression of University of Idaho.

More Information

For more information about the program, contact Daniel Stelck at daniels@uidaho.edu or any of our current College of Science ambassadors.

Biology Major

Hi there!  I am a biology major.  With a love for science and people, I am hoping to pursue a career in medicine. I have had some amazing shadowing opportunities, fun times in pre-med club, and I even got my certification as an EMT. These experiences have led me to pursue a career in family medicine. But, besides all things medical, I really enjoy things like art, gaming, and exercise. If you’re a fellow LoL player, then “stay positive!”

Mathematics & Computer Science Major

Hello.  I am double majoring in mathematics and computer science.  I like computers, but my real passion is math. I spend most of my spare time reading or doing math of various sorts. Algebraic geometry and algebraic number theory are my favorites right now, but I enjoy pretty much every type of math. After graduating, I plan to go to graduate school for a doctorate in pure math.

Physics & Mathematics Major

Hello.   I am from West Richland, Washington.  I am a majoring in both physics and mathematics. I am doing research under Dr. Hedman studying Saturn's rings and moons. In this project, we have been looking for new ring features caused by a moon Prometheus. I plan on attending graduate school studying astrodynamics, the study of how spacecraft navigate space. My interest in physics started with a passionate high school physics teacher, who inspired me to pursue the field. Outside of the math and physics classes, I enjoy playing in the marching band and camping.

Microbiology Major

I am majoring in microbiology and am on the pre-med track. I plan to attend medical school after I graduate and eventually become a surgeon. I enjoyed volunteering in the Boise VA ER this summer and had some incredible experiences that I love sharing with people who appreciate science as much as I do! I have been a competitive jump roper for eleven years and enjoy doing it in my spare time. This summer, I earned the gold medal at nationals in female single rope freestyle in Orlando, Florida!

Molecular Biology & Biotechnology Major

I am from a small town called Wallace, Idaho. I am double majoring in molecular biology and biotechnology, and medical technology. I plan to apply at Sacred Heart next fall for a 12 month long program to become a certified medical laboratory scientist.  As a medical laboratory scientist, I would perform different analyses on body fluids such as blood, urine, or cerebrospinal fluid. After the program, I would like to specialize in either bacteriology or genetics. Besides science, I love reading, traveling, playing games, and binge watching Netflix. I also have a dog, named Stark (Game of Thrones/Iron Man), who I completely adore.

Geology Major & Spanish Minor

Hola!  I am majoring in Geology and minoring in Spanish.  I grew up in a small town in Northern Idaho, but managed to see a lot of the world through extensive travel with my family.  This instilled a love for culture and diversity in me, and one day I hope to combine both of my fields of knowledge and work in mineral exploration in South America.  I also plan to obtain a Masters or PhD in geosciences, but I’m not yet sure where that will fit in.  Here in Moscow, I keep busy as President of the Geology Club, regularly swimming, hiking, running, dancing, and assisting Dr. Elizabeth Cassel in her research on the subsidence rate of mountain ranges.

Physics Major

I am currently studying physics and I am from Gooding, Idaho.  I decided to become a physics major because I wanted to know more about why things are the way they are on a more fundamental level.  Through the Ambassador program, I want incoming students and new students to understand the opportunities that are available and, specifically, the quality of education they receive here at the University of Idaho.  Outside of physics and class, I am a member of the Volleyball Club and in my spare time I like to read and hang out with friends.  In the future, I want to attend graduate school and get a Ph.D. or Masters in Physics, though I’m not sure what I want to specialize in just yet.

Microbiology Major

Hello! I am from Walla Walla, Wa and I am studying microbiology. I chose this major because I find it fascinating that we live in a world dependent on these tiny creatures that can only be seen through a microscope. I hope to one day get my PhD in microbiology and go into the field of research. In my spare time I love to play soccer and ultimate frisbee and spend time with my sorority sisters in Delta Delta Delta. I love to go on road trips and I hope that I can see as much as the Palouse as possible during my time in Moscow!

Biology Major

Hello! I am majoring in biology with minors in pre-health profession studies and psychology.  My dream has always been to be accepted into a physician assistant program, but this past summer I had an internship at SeaWorld and I became interested in animal behavior. That’s what I love about studying science; there are so many opportunities! Although I’d like to know exactly what I’ll be doing after graduation, I’ve committed the next two years to learning all I can and enjoying my time as an undergrad. I’m originally from Los Angeles, California, but moved to Coeur d’Alene a few years ago and absolutely love it! I like to spend my free time reading, hiking, biking, skiing, hanging out with my friends, and, of course, watching Netflix!

Chemistry Major

I’m currently working toward a degree in chemistry with a professional emphasis. I love it because it’s everywhere, all the time, and yet there’s always more to learn. I grew up in central Montana, but also love my home here on the Palouse. I currently participate in research under Dr. Richard Williams, doing synthesis of theoretically interesting molecules. On my own time I enjoy music, cooking, reading thought-provoking books, and watching mediocre crime shows with my dog. After the University of Idaho, I hope to attend graduate school to further my studies into chemistry as well as mathematics.

Microbiology & Spanish Major

Hola! I am double majoring in microbiology and Spanish and minoring in pre-health professions. I grew up in Eagle, Idaho but, I really love the role I play her in Moscow. Here in the next semester, I hope to begin research in a biology lab. Last year, I was fortunate to have worked in Renfrew Hall as a Lab Services Assistant where I learned many new skills. I love being involved on campus because it’s a great way to meet new people and build lifelong friendships. I am fortunate to have had some awesome shadowing and volunteer opportunities, and be a part of chemistry club! After my time here at University of Idaho, I hope to go to dental school. It’s been a dream of mine for as long as I can remember. Besides school, I enjoy playing lacrosse and intramural sports or being with my friends. I am also a firm believer in laughing, traveling and doing one thing that scares you every day.

Chemistry & Mathematics Major

Hello! I am double majoring in Professional Chemistry and General Mathematics. I absolutely love sports and any other physical activity, but I also love being lazy from time to time, as in laying on my floor and throwing popcorn up and trying to catch every piece in my mouth for hours. I have been researching with the chemistry department for almost a year and would love to share my experiences! GO VANDALS!

Sierra Turner

Chemical Engineering and Chemistry Major

Hello! I am majoring in Chemical Engineering and Chemistry, with a pre-medical emphasis. I am currently president of the Pre-Medicine Club, an Academic Peer Mentor in the residence halls, and do research in the Chemical Engineering department. Though I currently live in Boise, I have traveled extensively around Asia and seeing the disparity in medical care in 3rd world versus 1st world countries led me to pursue medicine. I prefer to live a very fast paced, active lifestyle and like to experience new activities so you will probably see me hiking, volunteering around town or exploring around with my friends. I adore meeting and talking to people, so if you see me around campus, come say hello!
