Student Ambassadors

Ambassador Program

The College of Science Ambassador Program is designed to incorporate exceptional undergraduate students from within our college to aid in our recruitment and retention efforts and act as the official representatives of the College of Science to the community. Students are selected to serve as ambassadors through an application and interview process. Ambassadors are trained in university processes and given opportunities to enhance their communication and leadership skills through a one-credit course taught by Daniel Stelck.

Mission

The mission of the ambassador program is to promote the College of Science in a positive and professional manner to prospective and current students as well as faculty, staff and the community. Our ambassadors work directly with various university departments in order to serve as a public relations and institutional advancement team. The College of Science ambassadors strive to represent the college in a manner that exemplifies campus pride, display a sound knowledge about the College of Science and leave a positive and lasting impression of University of Idaho.

More Information

For more information about the program, contact Daniel Stelck at daniels@uidaho.edu or any of our current College of Science ambassadors.

Mathematics & Chemistry Major

Hello! I am majoring in both mathematics and chemistry. I love doing research and finding new applications for the things I learn in my classes. My goal is to earn a doctorate in applied mathematics and pursue a career in academia. I am originally from Moses Lake, Washington. In my free time, I love to read novels and run long distance!

Microbiology Major

I am majoring in microbiology and am on the pre-med track. I plan to attend medical school after I graduate and eventually become a surgeon. I enjoyed volunteering in the Boise VA ER this summer and had some incredible experiences that I love sharing with people who appreciate science as much as I do! I have been a competitive jump roper for eleven years and enjoy doing it in my spare time. This summer, I earned the gold medal at nationals in female single rope freestyle in Orlando, Florida!

Physics Major

I am currently studying physics and I am from Gooding, Idaho.  I decided to become a physics major because I wanted to know more about why things are the way they are on a more fundamental level.  Through the Ambassador program, I want incoming students and new students to understand the opportunities that are available and, specifically, the quality of education they receive here at the University of Idaho.  Outside of physics and class, I am a member of the Volleyball Club and in my spare time I like to read and hang out with friends.  In the future, I want to attend graduate school and get a Ph.D. or Masters in Physics, though I’m not sure what I want to specialize in just yet.

Biology Major

Hello! I am majoring in biology with minors in pre-health profession studies and psychology.  My dream has always been to be accepted into a physician assistant program, but this past summer I had an internship at SeaWorld and I became interested in animal behavior. That’s what I love about studying science; there are so many opportunities! Although I’d like to know exactly what I’ll be doing after graduation, I’ve committed the next two years to learning all I can and enjoying my time as an undergrad. I’m originally from Los Angeles, California, but moved to Coeur d’Alene a few years ago and absolutely love it! I like to spend my free time reading, hiking, biking, skiing, hanging out with my friends, and, of course, watching Netflix!

Microbiology Major

Hello! I am from the small town of Nezperce, Idaho, and I am studying microbiology with a pre-health professions minor pursuing a career in the medical field. I love exercising, baking, reading, playing sports, spending time with friends, and volunteering whenever possible. I am excited for the opportunity to engage with students interested in the College of Science.

Biochemistry and Microbiology Major

Hello there! My name is Caleb Quates, and I am originally from Post Falls, Idaho. With a double major in Biochemistry and Microbiology, I plan to pursue a career in medicine or biomedical research. The University of Idaho has provided me with so many valuable experiences, including undergraduate research involvement and leadership development. As a College of Science Student Ambassador, I hope to help others get involved and find their passion for science! Outside of school, you can find me playing board games, watching Netflix, or snowboarding on Schweitzer Mountain in Sandpoint, Idaho!

Microbiology & Spanish Major

Hola! I am double majoring in microbiology and Spanish and minoring in pre-health professions. I grew up in Eagle, Idaho but, I really love the role I play her in Moscow. Here in the next semester, I hope to begin research in a biology lab. Last year, I was fortunate to have worked in Renfrew Hall as a Lab Services Assistant where I learned many new skills. I love being involved on campus because it’s a great way to meet new people and build lifelong friendships. I am fortunate to have had some awesome shadowing and volunteer opportunities, and be a part of chemistry club! After my time here at University of Idaho, I hope to go to dental school. It’s been a dream of mine for as long as I can remember. Besides school, I enjoy playing lacrosse and intramural sports or being with my friends. I am also a firm believer in laughing, traveling and doing one thing that scares you every day.

Chemistry & Mathematics Major

Hello! I am double majoring in Professional Chemistry and General Mathematics. I absolutely love sports and any other physical activity, but I also love being lazy from time to time, as in laying on my floor and throwing popcorn up and trying to catch every piece in my mouth for hours. I have been researching with the chemistry department for almost a year and would love to share my experiences! GO VANDALS!

Chemical Engineering and Chemistry Major

Hello! I am majoring in Chemical Engineering and Chemistry, with a pre-medical emphasis. I am currently president of the Pre-Medicine Club, an Academic Peer Mentor in the residence halls, and do research in the Chemical Engineering department. Though I currently live in Boise, I have traveled extensively around Asia and seeing the disparity in medical care in 3rd world versus 1st world countries led me to pursue medicine. I prefer to live a very fast paced, active lifestyle and like to experience new activities so you will probably see me hiking, volunteering around town or exploring around with my friends. I adore meeting and talking to people, so if you see me around campus, come say hello!
