My main research interests lie in the area of Mathematical Crystallography. Some of the physical phenomena that I help model are bulk properties of crystalline structures, particularly SiO2 polymorphs. I am currently working with Professor Osamu Tamada on a project designed to model the weathering effects on silicate surfaces of water in the presence of NaOH. My book Mathematical Crystallography (with G.V. Gibbs) is an attempt to present the beautiful mathematical description of all possible symmetrical arrangements of atoms in crystals in a way that is accessible to and appealing to those working in mineralogy and material science.
