Despicable Haircut

Raffle tickets were sold for the honor of buzzing Dr. Dan Stelck’s hair in preparation for the Despicable Science show, sponsored by the CoS Ambassadors and Chemistry Club.  Chemistry graduate student, Andrew Aring won the honor and, as depicted by his smile, seems to have had a great time giving Dr. Stelck a “new do”.

Alum's Work on Huntington Disease is Highlighted

Michael E. Østergaard earned his Ph.D. degree from our Department of Chemistry in 2010 working on functionalized oligonucleotides for therapeutic and diagnostic purposes under the supervision of Patrick Hrdlicka.  Dr. Østergaard was recruited by Isis Pharmaceuticals for a postdoctoral fellowship and is presently a Senior Scientist with the company.  Isis Pharmaceuticals is the worldwide leader in the field of oligonucleotide-based therapeutics.

2013 Research or Creative Activity Excellence Award

Dr. Patrick Hrdlicka, Associate Professor of Chemistry, was presented the 2013 Research or Creative Activity Excellence Award by the university president and former Provost and Executive Vice President Doug Baker on April 15, 2013. The purpose of this award is to recognize and encourage excellence in all forms of scholarly research and creative activity. The work recognized may be a single significant contribution or an accumulation of significant contributions that have received national or international recognition.
