Departmental Awards

2014

  • Brooke Anderson, a Ph.D. student with the Hrdlicka Group, has been named the winner of the 2014 Cooley-Juve Outstanding TA Award.
  • Leslie Nickerson is this year's winner of the William H. Cone Award as the most outstanding chemistry major of the 2014 graduating class.
  • Sara Sumner has been chosen by the faculty to receive the 2014 American Institute of Chemists Student Award recognizing her scholastic achievement, leadership, character, and ability.
  • Stephen Holmbo has won the 2014 Excellence in Chemistry Award. This award recognizes a senior majoring in chemistry who has demonstrated scholastic achievement, leadership, and professional promise.
  • Eric Hall is the recipient of the 2014 Merck Index Award presented to an outstanding chemistry major in this year's class.

2013

  • Leah Shaffer, a Ph.D. student in the von Wandruszka Group, has been named the winner of the 2013 Cooley-Juve Outstanding TA Award.
  • Tyler Evans is this year's winner of the William H. Cone Award as the most outstanding chemistry major of the 2013 graduating class.
  • Benjamin Denn has been chosen by the faculty for the 2013 American Institute of Chemists Student Award recognizing his scholastic achievement, leadership, character, and ability.
  • Brianna Knudtsen has won the 2013 Excellence in Chemistry Award. This is a new award recognizing a senior majoring in chemistry who has demonstrated scholastic achievement, leadership, and professional promise.
  • The 2013 Larry L. Nash Award in Chemistry was awarded to Dale Guenther for her honesty, hard work, helpfulness, integrity, sincerity, and friendliness-many of Larry's qualities. Dale is a graduate student seeking her Ph.D. in Chemistry and working in the Hrdlicka Group.

2012

  • The 2012 Larry L. Nash Award in Chemistry was awarded to Thao Vo for her honesty, hard work, helpfulness, integrity, sincerity, and friendliness-many of Larry's qualities. Thao is a graduate student seeking her Ph.D. in Chemistry.
  • Leah Knibbe and Nathan Yergenson are the recipients of 2012 Merck Index Award presented to outstanding chemistry majors in this year's class.
  • Isaiah Gyan, a Ph.D. student,has been named the winner of the 2012Cooley-Juve Outstanding TA Award.
  • Nicholas Weires is this year's winner of the William H. Cone Award as the most outstanding chemistry major of the 2012 graduating class.
  • Kellen Robertson has been chosen by the faculty for the American Institute of Chemists Student Award recognizing his scholastic achievement, leadership, character, and ability.

2011

  • Aaron Stancik, a Ph.D. graduate student, has been selected as the 2011-2012 recipient of the Larry Nash Prize in Chemistry. The selection committee chose Aaron because they felt he exemplified many of Larry's qualities including honesty, hardwork, helpfulness, integrity, sincerity, and friendliness. The Prize consists of a plaque and an award of $1,000 toward his education.
  • Andrew Roth was awarded the 2011 Merck Index Award as one of the outstanding chemistry majors of this year's class.
  • The Chemistry faculty has voted Seth Hyde to receive the William H. Cone Award as the outstanding chemistry major of this year's graduating class.

2010

  • Michael Spinner, a senior in Biochemistry, has received an Alumni Award for Excellence, presented to seniors, law students, and graduate students for outstanding academic achievement, professional preparation, and leadership within the community.
  • Mason Frederickson, a senior in Chemistry, has been awarded First Place in the 2010 UI College of Science Student Research Exposition for his project titled "Identification of food pathogen DNA using nucleic acid probes".
  • The Chemistry faculty voted Melissa Fuelling to receive the 2010 Merck Index Award as one of the outstanding chemistry majors of this year's class.
  • Rachel Hailey has received the William H. Cone Award as the outstanding chemistry major of this year's class.

2009

  • Laken M. Top, a senior in Chemistry, has been awarded the 2009 William H. Cone Award for being the most outstanding senior in chemistry.
  • Jared W. Rigoli, a senior in Chemistry, has been awarded the 2009 Merck Index Award.
  • Wyatt Thornley, a senior in Chemistry, has been awarded the 2009 Merck Index Award.
  • Dale Guenther, a senior in Chemistry, has been awarded the 2009 American Institute of Chemists Award.

College of Science Awards

2014

  • Leslie Nickerson has won the 2014 College of Science Dean's Award for being the outstanding senior in Chemistry.

2013

  • Brianna Knudtsen has won the 2013 College of Science Dean's Award which is presented to an outstanding senior in each department.

2012

  • Nicholas Weires has been chosen to receive the 2012 John B. George Award as the outstanding graduating senior based on his academic achievement and service to the university community.

2011

  • Sarah Vukelich, junior in Chemistry, is one of the winners of the 2011 Hill Undergraduate Research Fellowships. Through the generosity of Dr. Brian and Gayle Hill, these fellowships are offered to students working with faculty in the College of Science. The fellowships include a $950 scholarship plus a research budget of up to $1500.

2010

  • Nick Weires, a senior in Chemistry, has been awarded the College of Science 2010 Hill Undergraduate Research Fellowship.  Nick Weires will be working with Dr. Jakob Magolan and will be supplied a scholarship along with a research budget of up to $1500, thanks to the generosity of Dr. Brian and Gayle Hill.
  • Christopher Roske has received the Outstanding Undergraduate Research Award which is presented to a graduating senior who has performed outstanding original research in science or mathematics.
  • Rachel Hailey is the winner of one of the 2010 College of Science Dean's Award for being the outstanding senior in Chemistry.

2009

  • Laken M. Top, a senior in Chemistry, has been awarded the College of Science Dean's Award for being the most outstanding senior in Chemistry. Based on her outstanding academic achievement and service to the university community, Laken M. Top was also chosen to receive the John B. George Award, chosen from the Dean's Award nominees.
  • Mason Frederickson, undergraduate researcher in Prof. Hrdlicka's group, has been awarded funding through the Brian and Gayle Hill Undergraduate Research Fellowship program for his research project in Organic Chemistry.
  • Dale Guenther, undergraduate researcher in Prof. Hrdlicka's group, has been awarded funding through the Brian and Gayle Hill Undergraduate Research Fellowship program for her research project in Synthetic Nucleic Acid Chemistry.

Other Awards

2011

  • Professor Emeritus, Dr. Peter Griffiths, has won the 2011 Anachem Award! This award is presented annually to an outstanding analytical chemist based on activities in teaching, research, administration or other activity which has advanced the art and science of the field. The Award is presented at the National FACSS as a part of a special symposium arranged and given by former students and colleagues.
  • Dr. Jean'ne Shreeve has been elevated to Distinguished Professor at the University of Idaho.

2010

  • Dr. Ray von Wandruszka, Department of Chemistry Chair, has been recognized as Spinner's most influential and inspirational faculty member.
