Financial Support

Admitted students typically receive financial support either as a Teaching Assistant (TA) supported by a Departmental Fellowship or as a Research Assistant (RA) supported by the advisor’s external grant funding.

Departmental Fellowships

Departmental Fellowships provide a stipend and pay tuition and health insurance. Non-resident tuition is waived. Departmental Fellows (TAs) primarily provide instruction in lower division biology laboratories.

Research Assistantships

Research Assistantships provide a stipend and waiver of non-resident tuition. Payment of tuition and health insurance are normally part of the RA package, but this can vary with the amount and type of funding available through faculty grants.

Assistantships

All admitted students are reviewed for assistantships. There is no separate application required for assistantships.
