Admitted students typically receive financial support either as a Teaching Assistant (TA) supported by a Departmental Fellowship or as a Research Assistant (RA) supported by the advisor’s external grant funding.
- Departmental Fellowships provide a stipend and pay tuition and health insurance. Non-resident tuition is waived. Departmental Fellows (TAs) primarily provide instruction in lower division biology laboratories.
- Research Assistantships provide a stipend and waiver of non-resident tuition. Payment of tuition and health insurance are normally part of the RA package, but this can vary with the amount and type of funding available through faculty grants.
- All admitted students are reviewed for assistantships. There is no separate application required for assistantships.
