Rob Ely

ElyRob Ely is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mathematics at the University of Idaho. He holds a Ph.D. in Curriculum & Instruction from the University of Wisconsin in 2007, and his research is in mathematics education.

Rob specializes in examining the epistemological relationships between the way students learn particular mathematical concepts and the way these concepts developed historically. He particularly focuses on student and historical conceptions of the infinite and the infinitesimal, variables and quantities, and argumentation.

Rob brings his interest and expertise in mathematics education to the Interdisciplinary STEM Advisory Team. He will assist in the development of math education questions for both the statewide, teacher, and student surveys.
