John C. Shovic, Ph.D | Outstanding Alumni Innovator

This award is presented to University of Idaho alumni whose professional career had demonstrated innovation and entrepreneurship. This year’s recipient is John C. Shovic, Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science in 1988. Dr. Shovic is currently Chief Technical Officer of InstiComm, LLC, a company specializing in medical software solutions for health practitioners. He is also Chief Technology Strategist at Stratus Global Partners with a focus on supplying expertise in computer security and regulatory and technical areas to healthcare providers. John has worked in industry for over thirty years and has founded six companies; Advanced Hardware Architecture (a UI start-up), TriGeo Network Security (based on a UI technology), Blue Water Technologies (a UI start-up), MiloCreek LLC, InstiComm LLC and bankCDA, a community bank located in Coeur d’Alene. He has also served as a Professor of Computer Science at Eastern Washington University, Washington State University and the University of Idaho. Dr. Shovic has given over 60 invited talks and has published over 30 papers on a variety of topics on HIPAA, GLB, computer security, computer forensics, embedded systems and others. A native of Montana, he received his BS and MS degree from Montana State University and his PhD from the University of Idaho.
Well known nationally and internationally for his work on CFC alternatives, he has presented many talks on the subject and on opportunities for catalysis in the chemical industry. More
