Holly Wichman 2007

Holly Wichman, professor of biological sciences, came to the University of Idaho in 1988. She received her doctoral degree from Wesleyan University in 1983, and was a Jane Coffin Child Postdoctoral Fellow and then an assistant professor in the Midwest before returning to the Northwest. Wichman has grown a vibrant, sustainable research program. She has adapted to new developments, recognizing and seizing new opportunities. Consequently, she is among the pioneers in two rapidly growing areas – mammalian genome organization and experimental evolution. She has numerous peer-reviewed articles in journals including Science, Nature Genetics, and Genetics. Collaborator Robert Baker, of Texas Tech, describes her as being one of those unique individuals who has “a sustained record of developing new ideas and methods to explore nature.”
