Dean Edwards 2006
Dean Edwards, professor of mechanical engineering and director of the Center for Intelligent Systems Research, joined the University of Idaho in 1986. His work focuses on autonomous vehicles and battery technology for electric vehicles. The potential applications are broad, including underwater-unmanned vehicles, aerial unmanned vehicles, interplanetary missions, factory automation, field vehicles and more. His expertise in this area has led to $5.6 million in external funding. Edwards is known for building practical research programs and developing courses in advanced control theory. “His students are highly qualified for jobs of the highest technical caliber,” said one former student. Edwards has held the role of chair or co-chair for seven national and international conferences.
