Work With LASR

LASR can help accomplish your research and development goals! Our mission is to facilitate access to university R & D expertise and infrastructure. In addition, LASR enables university researchers and experts to effectively contribute to real world problems with outside partners.

The process for establishing a project with LASR is outlined in the sections that follow and it all begins with a simple email to initiate contact to LASR@uidaho.edu.

Your inquiry will be routed to a LASR team member with relevant expertise who will make initial inquiries and perform background research to identify resources available to LASR that may be included in the project. If there is little chance that LASR can facilitate or enable your project, we will notify you promptly.

Once resources have been identified, a meeting will be arranged with relevant experts, LASR, and the potential client company to discuss project details. A confidentiality agreement can be established to facilitate this meeting, as required. If additional information or resources are required to proceed, LASR will pursue these in a timely manner to enable the project to ‘take shape.’

Once a research or development project has been defined, a research or technical assistance agreement will be established between the involved parties. The goal is to achieve a simple but effective agreement that includes a brief statement of work, timeline and deliverables, and budget. The agreement will also elaborate the disposition of intellectual property and results from the project.

Working closely with the outside partner, LASR will provide project management and ensure that lines of communication are open and clear to all the stakeholders. Our focus is on best research practices, adherence to project timelines and achieving deliverables. Regular project meetings (or teleconferences) will be established to evaluate progress and direction and to make any needed alterations to the project plan. A final project report will be provided to the sponsor.
