LASR Board | John (Jack) K. McIver
John (Jack) K. McIver is Vice President for Research and Economic Development and Professor of Physics at the University of Idaho. In his administrative role, he oversees, coordinates and facilitates all University of Idaho research activities.
McIver works closely with faculty to catalyze, encourage and support research and scholarly activities. He also has management responsibility for the University of Idaho Office of Research and Economic Development, which includes the Office of Sponsored Programs, the Office of Research Assurances, the University institutes and the Office of Technology Transfer.
He serves as the principal point of contact for the University in all research related matters and represents the regional, national and international research interests of the institution to major research funding agencies and foundations, to regional and national research consortia, to national laboratories, to federal and state agencies and to the private sector.
McIver's career has focused on laser technology research and on managing and building interdisciplinary research enterprises. An accomplished physicist with and international reputation, he came to the University of Idaho in 2008, having served in senior research leadership positions with the University of New Mexico since 2001.
He holds a Ph.D. from the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences, University of Rochester, New York.
