No matter where employees work or what they do, it is essential they are able to recognize hazards and have a clear understanding of the safe work practices and procedures they need to follow to avoid injury or illness.
Safety Matters is a new, online safety orientation course that is available for assignment by supervisors through Environmental Health and Safety's learning center in the NetLearning@uidaho learning management system. Safety Matters replaces the University's previous official safety orientation video, Safety 24/7, as the required basis that must be used by supervisors to help ensure an appropriate safety orientation is provided to all newly hired employees as soon as possible after their date of hire. Safety Matters should also be assigned by supervisors to current employees who have not previously viewed the Safety 24/7 video.
A checklist that can be used to assist with and document the safety orientation process may be downloaded from this webpage. This checklist may be modified as required to make it more relevant to unit-specific needs.
For assistance or further information, please contact your supervisor, unit Gatekeeper or Environmental Health & Safety.
