Hazardous Energy Control (Lockout/Tagout)
University employees who are required to service or maintain machinery and equipment can face a significant risk of serious injury or even death if related energy sources are not identified and properly controlled as the first step in the maintenance process.
This webpage contains the template and forms that must be used whenever written lockout-tagout programs are required. Template sections are listed in order under "Resources." Links to related safety training requirements and opportunities, products and other pertinent information are also included.
The use of lockout-tagout procedures is not required to work on cord and plug connected electric equipment for which exposure to the hazards of unexpected energization or start up of the equipment may be controlled by the unplugging of the equipment from the energy source and the plug is under the exclusive control of the employee performing the servicing or maintenance.
