Fall Protection
When standard guardrails or similar barriers are not already in place to prevent workers from being exposed to falls of six feet or more, effective fall protection systems that will safely arrest a fall, should one occur, must be in place. Supervisors are responsible for ensuring that necessary written procedures are in place and that the employees they supervise are adequately trained and equipped before they are allowed to wear fall protection equipment and/or monitor work in these areas.
This webpage includes information on the fall protection standard that applies to University employees and federal regulations used in conjunction with these standards. A checklist supervisors can use to assess fall protection requirements and a template that can be used to document the equipment and procedures that must be used and followed in specific situations may also be downloaded from this webpage.
