Driver Safety

Whether operating a motor vehicle on or off the job, driving is one of the most hazardous tasks most people probably ever perform.

Units are expected to assist in controlling the risks associated with University vehicle use by making sure that all vehicles are maintained in a safe condition, and that drivers are trained and required to drive University vehicles safely, in accordance with related policies and procedures, at all times.

Employees are required to complete the University’s defensive driving course prior to driving any University vehicle. This webpage contains information on this course, checklists that can be used to document required and recommended vehicle inspections, and links to the policies, procedures and forms related to the use of University vehicles.

For additional information on defensive driving or vehicle inspections, please contact Environmental Health and Safety at 208-885-6524 or send e-mail to safety@uidaho.edu.

For additional information the policies related to the use and insurance of vehicles, please contact the Risk Management Office at 208-885-7177 or send e-mail to risk@uidaho.edu.
