The Friday Letter: Special Edition

President Daley-Laursen Welcomes President-Designate Duane Nellis
Wednesday, April 22, 2009
Dear Friends,

It is with pleasure that I join the chorus of Vandal voices far and wide in welcoming a new president to the University of Idaho.

Today, the Idaho State Board of Education announced in a live news conference on our Moscow campus that on July 1, 2009, Dr. Duane Nellis will become the 17th president of this very special, vibrant and talented community of scholars and leaders. You may view the news conference, learn more about Dr. Nellis and watch the progress of the leadership transition on the Web: www.uidaho.edu/newpresident.

Dr. Nellis, a distinguished geographer and, for the past five years, provost and senior vice president of Kansas State University, becomes a Vandal at a particularly exciting time in the evolution of our University. It is a time of energy, action and great promise for the future. I could not be prouder than I am today of what we have achieved together this last year, nor more confident of the continued leadership of the University of Idaho and its remarkable people.

As president, I welcome Dr. Nellis to the helm of this great institution. As a former dean, I note with high regard his record of academic service to his current institution and to West Virginia University, where for seven years he was dean of the largest academic college. And as an alumnus - with deep love for my institution and a personal investment in ensuring its bright future - I express to him my thanks and congratulations on achieving the honor of serving my University.
