University of Idaho FY 2010 Fiscal Update | Feb. 11, 2010
Dear University of Idaho Faculty, Staff and Students:
I am aware there is considerable discussion and speculation within our community about plans under development to initiate furloughs at the University of Idaho. As has been reported in various venues, my executive team and I have been in discussion with the Provost’s Council, Faculty Senate, Staff Affairs leadership and others, and we are weighing and modeling various options carefully with their guidance and feedback. We are focused on maintaining the quality of our students’ education and applying any furlough requirements in the most equitable way possible in this fiscal year.
As you have probably also followed, the state revenue forecast continues to show little sign of improvement and the governor and legislature are in deliberations about the level of additional reductions we and other public agencies may be asked to absorb.
We expect our internal discussions to conclude in the coming week. We will then communicate a course of action for all employees the week of February 22.
In the meantime, I thank you for your continued good work and your contributions to each student’s success and our state’s progress.
