The Provost and Executive Vice President, as the chief academic and budget officer, administers the academic program (instruction and research in schools and other unaffliliated units) and university services in support of the academic program (student affairs, libraries, information resources, and institutional planning).
The provost and executive vice president is responsible for the institution-wide general direction of the instruction, research and outreach activities of the university and is the senior member of the administrative cabinet next to the president. He chairs the Provost Council and coordinates the activities of the vice presidents and other senior administration members. The executive council has responsibility to develop and recommend policy and budget priorities for consideration and action by the president. Acting for the president, and within delegated responsibility, the provost and executive vice president develops and assures compliance with administrative directives as are reasonable and necessary to support the mission of the university.
